The mafia both had the ability to disguise themselves as the person they killed. They never used it, and it wasn't really ever necessary after day 1. While anyone who's played the epicmafia setup that inspired this (created by RedCoyote, in fact) would probably not be surprised by this, it would probably be pretty unfair to anyone not expecting it. I ought to have put in a warning or made the setup semi-open. I simply hadn't thought about it because I'd assumed it would get revealed at some point, but it never did. A good thing no one got blindsided by it, I guess.

So overall kind of disappointed because the gimmick it's based on never got put into play, the anonymity didn't amount to much, and having to replace nearly half the game is sort of a buzzkill. Oh well.

also, i agree that disguiser probably deserved a notice about it. i considered that there might be one but went "nah nobody seems disguised and this is mafiascum anyway" though it didn't matter in the end. disguiser is unfair if you're not specifically looking out for it imo since it misleads town in the same way a death godfather would. plus town didn't really have too much going for them to combat the disguiser they didn't know about, though that might have just been because both our power roles died within the first phase cycle what the fuck red

Effort > no effort, man. Always. Misreading someone is something that will happen. Just learn from it. This is only my third completed game and I'm slowly trying to get the hang of forum mafia.

I should make a slightly clear post from a macro perspective rather than just purely speaking about the game itself. I do appreciate the effort that you put into this, Mod. I was flattered that you used the name and thought you did a fine job moderating it. I have many a treasured memory of using the Disguiser in EM years ago and having some of the most fun I ever had on the Internet. Words couldn't express the love I have for that role, the concept behind it, and the absolute bliss that comes with successfully pulling it off to the chagrin of the town. I sincerely hope that those of you in here who still frequent EM and the others in the site are able to appreciate it to some degree as well. I've found it far too difficult to find those moments on EM any longer myself.

That all being said, the art of the Disguiser is in being able to play using someone else's identity. That's where the soul of it is. The skill that comes from established personas mimicking established personas. That's just something that, I think, will most likely be impossible on MS. The anonymous accounts are simply a poor substitution.

And please understand, that's not an insult to the game in any way. You tried something different that was a fun and interesting game. It was unique and completely unlike anything else I've played here. But this is more or less why I wasn't concerned about a potential Disguiser during the game. With anonymity AND players that I didn't recognize, well, there's just nothing to disguise as. I wouldn't know Yellow mask from Adam, you know?

But the game was cool. The players were fine. I already addressed that in my other post with the account. I actually think this concept is a solid one, Mod, for an invitational of sorts. I think if the players all knew one another in the player list, then they may really have a blast with it. I hope you consider running something like that one day.
