I would probably need somewhere though :(

So when's good, Regfan/DeasVail/Quilford?? I don't think I've been to Sydney since I was like twelve or thirteen.

Cheery, it's Sydney. Motels/hotels/caravan parks exist.

I don't know how to answer most of your questions very well and figure that someone else would have a better idea than me, but hey, if no one does I'll say what I can.

As for time. N, you mentioned the new year, and January is a pretty free month for me until the 27th or so. I'd probably make any time work though, just as long as it's not mid-December.

I guess I'll have to sleep in the car then, I can get there, but the money would all be on petrol and food.

I finally got my roster for December/January. I'm working until the 19th, then working the 5th, then from the 12th onward. For all I know I may end up working the rest of the week of the 6th-9th, but if we make plans for in that time I can tell them I can't.

Also, I was looking at the cost of flights, and I think it's roughly $250 return if I book soon, which is probably cheaper than driving w/ stopover half way. (Although it may have been $250 each way and I'm an idiot.)

I think it's cheaper if you carpool with me.

Where should I go/stay?
Who would come hang out with me?
Who could I stay with if I wanted to couch surf around australia?
What time is the best time to come weather wise?
How much money would I need per day to be pretty comfortable with my food/entertainment expenses?
What are the parts/attractions/sights in Australia that I absolutely can't miss?

Where should you go? My place! I'm in Canberra.

Who will hang out with you? ME!

Who could you stay with? ME! Also couch surfers is big here.

What time? Summer! It's hot, you're not used to it, but you'll see more. If you do Darwin (the Northern Territory, which I recommend), you want to be here between May - September for the Dry Season (tropical) September is prob best.

How much money? Depends where you are and what you want to do. A slab of beer or a bottle of "house" booze is about $AU40. Pub meals are about $AU20 and Fast food is about $AU10. Accommodation is too varied.

What can you not miss? Hanging out with me!

In all honesty here's the Jam with Australia: Western Australia is bullshit unless you're interested in those life forms that are like...the first life. Everything else is bullshit and it's too far away from the rest of Australia. Darwin is in the centre of the north of Australia, it's awesome for tourism because it's where a lot of tourists go. It's got great "Outback" Australia stuff. It's got crocodile cruises, it's got awesome beaches (though they're usually not good for swimming) national parks are great. It's got like a "natural museum" (which TBH is more like a Ripleys! than anything) with like stuffed crocs and snakes and shit.

Just south of Darwin is a place called Alice Springs (honestly, if you drove south it'd take you a few hours, but holy shit would you see an amazing part of Australia. It's just nothing! it's the brown red dirt you've seen in Simpsons cartoons. Amazing!) Actually, fuck driving, take the Ghan. Awesome. From Alice Springs you'll be able to go to Uluru. It's a world heritage sandstone formation and it's kind of amazing. If you were only going for that I might not bother, but to do the Ghan down there would be a blast. If you did drive I'd get you to stop at Daily Waters Pub. I miss those guys.

On the East Coast where the people and grass live north to south you've got The Gold Coast and Brisbane which is beautiful and a very fun city to be in. Lots of nightlife, very bohemian. Then Sydney which has a lot of awesome Early Australia stuff. The Rocks at Sydney has a bunch of the original buildings that were built when Australia was settled. Including the OLDEST (continually licensed) pub in Australia. Sydney is also a great place for the culture. You'll see the Harbour Bridge and
Oprah
Opera House. Both are really really good. Opera House gets a lot of good theatre too.

Canberra is the place to see the Australian War Memorial, and our two houses of Parliament (Old and New). It's also a very classy kind of nightlife because the city is FULL of government workers (overpaid). Also I'm there.

South of us is Melbourne which is your culture place. Awesome bars, awesome comedy, awesome theatre, awesome everything. I really like Melbourne. Less history than Sydney, more culture.

Canberra is our DC, Sydney is our New York, and Melbourne is our Portland or LA or something like that. Darwin is like nothing you've seen, and everything else is bullshit.

Oh and Tasmania exists. Fuck Tasmania.
