Things couldn't be worse. You knew you shouldn't have taken that trip up into the mountains with 21 other people. But adventure called your name, and now you're paying for it Shady business had been going on from the start, and it all came to a head last night, when a street cop, a private detective, four members of the Binghamton Lions Club, the head physician at Wilson hospital, and a brain surgeon from Lourdes hospital were all killed various ways in their sleep. It appears everyone was slated to be killed last night. Luckily, though, a homicidal maniac and what appears to be the godfather of a small band of mafia killed each other last night too, stopping the killing spree. From what you amateurs can piece together, the maniac was busy getting canning equipment ready for his victims, until the mafia burst in on him. A bloody melee followed, and the two killed each other. Found on the cooling corpse of the godfather were two letters, one for each of his henchmen... without any names. They must have fled the scene after their don was diced.

So here you are, 12 of you, you've disposed of the corpses in a funeral pyre after first checking their wallets (the mafia godfather's had twelve thousand dollars in it!), and a faint hope blossomed that you might head down the mountain tomorrow... until someone points out that if the mafia isn't gotten rid of before you head down, all your lives will be forfeit. Mountaineering accidents are easy to arrange.

There's a bottle in the old medicine cabinet with a dozen cyanide capsules... each day someone's going to be fed a capsule. And now, off to bed with you all, sleep tight, try not to think of the mafia creeping around. Actually, with how wary people are now, you hope they won't be killing anyone any more. One, two, they're coming for you, three four, better lock the door....

Rules, blatently stolen from my HHGG2, where I stole them from MeMe:

• Days will last as long as they need to. If discussion lags, I will impose a deadline. If discussion picks up, the deadline will be rescinded.
  
• Votes must be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
  
• Once a player has reached the necessary majority to lynch, the day is over. Unvoting them will not save their life.
  
• No lynches are allowed, they require the same votes as a lynch.
  
• The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread at all, except for the two mafia members at night.
  
• Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Please, no posting ideas or theories.
  
• Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts. No matter what stupid thing you've done. Post again and correct it.
  
• For once, you are entirely free to quote your PM directly. Multiple times if you wish.
  
• Mafia - the first time you miss a deadline, no choice will be made. The second time, a mafia member will die. If you need an extension, let me know.
  
• If you're going to be gone any amount of time, let everyone know out of courtesy.
  
• The mod is god. Any mistakes such as inaccurate vote counts are obviously YOUR mistake. Please point out your mistakes so I can correct them. And if I ask you to eat play-doh, you say "WHAT COLOR, MOD!". Sacrifices of small woodland animals accepted. (I just couldn't change this from HHGG2... I just couldn't...)

It is night 1. Mafia's choice due by Saturday at noon EST.

The night seemed ten times longer than it actually was. Noone wanted to be with anyone else, and noone wanted to be alone. Half the rooms, the rooms without blood stains, were full of ragged souls desperately trying to stay awake, completely spent from the day of disposing of the dead and worrying about the mafia. Every time it seemed slumber was imminent, something would make noise, noise magnified a thousand times by haunted rooms and haunted memories. The morning seemed a long ways away, and saftey seemed unavailable at any price.

And the morning came, as everyone knew it would eventually. One by one, the players all furitively sidled into the main room, noone daring talk to anyone else. There were enough food supplies to last this group a month, being that they were stocked for double the number, but a sparse breakfast was made, which no one ate. Finally the realization had to be faced - one of their number wasn't there. Coolbot, JereIC, and Dasquian were sent to mathcam's room to see if he was still asleep, or if he had gone insane and attempted to climb down in the dark of night. It wasn't long before the three unlucky chosen were back in the common room, grimly dragging mathcam's body in his brick-red stained sheet outside. The common room was quiet for several minutes, noone daring move, until a bright flickering light from outside, the light of a funeral pyre, came in through the windows. Coolbot, JereIC, and Dasquian came back in, and everyone in the room looked at each other, ready - no, not ready, never ready, not ready, but desperate - to try and figure out who was the fox in the henhouse.

Did I miss some pre-game talk about this games set up? Werebear's comment indicates that the only night choices in this game are that of the mafia's. Also, there's the deaths of all those cops and docs. What gives?

This is the game that was talked about in "Mafia Discussion". There are going to be 10 townies and 2 mafia. That's IT. There will be no waiting for role claiming, no waiting on cop's investigations. Your role email will consist of one word, either "mafia" or "town". It will be up to you to decipher who is the mafia from the other player's participation and voting, or lack thereof.
