Help with Spreading Mafia?

Basically, on a separate political message board, I'm working to instill Mafia there. By linking threads from here over there, I'm trying to better help the new players learn how to play.

Then a thought came to me. Would you allow it if some of the players here traveled over there, in order to help me teach them how to play, and learn the ropes? If one representative from Mafiascum could come and help me set this "seed" over there, it'd help tremendously in getting the game ingrained elsewhere.

We completed our first game, and now it's looking like a second one is coming.

Would it be alright if one or more players here came to represent and start Mafia over there with me? I would like to see them playing both here and there in the future, to sharpen their gameplay.

Taking players from here to there, when the players don't have an interest in the site itself, isn't likely to work. It'll probably lead to an us-vs-them feeling, at best, or a steamroll by scummers (or our style will bug the everloving shit out of them, and you'll put them off Mafia entirely).

ALso, advertising.

Oh. I never thought of that...

Could you maybe give me some pointers on how to better spread Mafia there? I've been trying to teach them solely in accordance with MS.net gameplay rules.

Small simple games.

I'd make em quicker as well.

Thanks.

I've made the second one simpler. First they played multiball, 13 players with two 2-player Scum teams. The Blue team got wiped out by Day 2, and eventually Red team won.

Now we've got 14 players, and we're doing a more linear game:

Town Cop ~
Town Doctor ~
Town Jailkeeper ~
Town Bodyguard ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Vanilla Townie ~
Mafia Godfather ~
Mafia Roleblocker ~
Mafia Goon ~

They're pretty excited, and this is the first time they're experiencing a Godfather. ;D

Starting with small 9player Open setups like C9.

C9 is good because it gives the use of power roles but still makes mass-claiming not a good idea (WIFOM).

I would also use the MS.net wiki as the reference tool for your players. That way if they decided they want more, they are already familiar with the way it's done here.

Thanks, Peregrine. This forum should have a "Likes" function. :D

tn5421, I'm not sure if that'd be alright with forum rules.

It's not like I'm going to report your pm >.<

I'm also fairly sure the rules only prohibit UNSOLICITED advertising, which doesn't apply when I'm asking (soliciting) you for a link.

Quoting the rules:
Spam and Advertisement - Unsolicited messages with the intent to sell something or mislead users. This includes unsolicited links to other Mafia-specific sites. Threads and series of posts that are no or low content may also be considered spam.
so·lic·it
səˈlisit/Submit
verb
ask for or try to obtain (something) from someone.
"he called a meeting to solicit their views"
synonyms: ask for, request, seek, apply for, put in for, call for, press for, beg, plead for More
ask (someone) for something.
"historians and critics are solicited for opinions by the auction houses"
accost someone and offer one's or someone else's services as a prostitute.
"although prostitution was not itself an offense, soliciting was"
I am soliciting you for a link.

tn is correct, answering a request for a link is fine.

Mr. Flay, would it be alright to mention in posts that players can ask me to PM them if they want to play Mafia elsewhere?

It's a bit tough trying to teach a lot of people the ins and outs of Mafia. Right now we're discussing general gameplay, like the universal backup role and X-Shot modifiers.

Thanks, ZZZX. I just sent you a PM. We've got 16 in Signups so far, and we're looking at a horror movie themed game.

I am in need of three good players to fix my game offsite. The game is Large, Semi-Closed, and Themed (Horror Movies).

This is an extremely rare circumstance, and I am desperate to fix the game to keep from having it scrapped. Please help.

Scratch that, please. Game is compromised beyond repair.
