Two Questions

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon May 21, 2007 4:36 am

I'm modding a game and have some basic questions.

What usually happens when the cop investigates the serial killer?

Some players want to know whether the doctor can heal himself. Should I tell them or leave it ambiguous?

Depends on the game, some mods have Serial Killers investigate innocent; some don't; and for some mods, it depends on the game.

Depends on how common self-protecting is where the game is being held. If its rare, then you can probably do so.

SKs often are investigation immune, but it's not a rule.

If it's a closed setup, I would only tell the doctor whether he can self-protect. Townies don't have a right to know that. The mod could guarantee that if he wanted, though.

Depends on the wording of the Cop's PM. The Cop can be specifically told he finds Mafia, in which case he would get "Not Mafia" as result on an SK. If the Cop finds anything anti-town, he'd get a "Scum" result on the SK. There are also variations on the SK that make him turn up town in investigations. This, however, is something that should come back in the SK's role PM.

Only the doc himself should know for sure, though it is usually taken for granted that the doc can't protect himself, as that would be a very powerful role.

SK-immunity may be so common as to be the norm here, but SKs are evil and cops generally detect evil.

Docs generally cannot self-protect (otherwise lots of people would all the time).

YMMV, but that was my impression of the "core" rules.

Docs generally cannot self-protect
here
. One of the reasons the standard role PMs state this specifically is that a lot of new scummers who had played elsewhere were trying to protect themselves, and it changes your D1 strategy significantly if you can/cannot do that. Docs should always know one way or the other;

SKs might know if they're immune to investigation, or not. The cop's role PM shouldn't lie to them, but it can be suitably vague. "I will tell you what your target's win condition is" is bad; "I will tell you if you find them to be anti-town or not" is good, IMO.
Retired as of October 2014.
