So I can see a lot of pitfalls with the challenge system but I am willing to try it. For instance, what if you are the best player (e.g., a player who is like rank 4 or something)...would anyone challenge you? Would anybody want YOU to be one of their 3 games for the week? What about assigning 3 matches a week, the person above you, the person below you, and a free challenge? Maybe the guy at number 1 would get a second free challenge (since no one would be above him) but it would have to be someone in the top 10. Likewise, maybe the guy in last would get a second free challenge but have to be someone within 10 slots of him.

I don't know, just brainstorming here.

I mean, this is a league for fun so I really hope we don't have people being really petty about things because that would just be lame.

Is this in regard to the playing a high ranking player? Not sure if it's petty but ok. I am more thinking that it will just suck cause you want a chance to win so you will be more inclined to challenge someone around your skill level which might leave uber awesome guy out. I want to have fun but I am competitive by nature. I have no delusions I will ever be #1 but trying to beat my personal best will be something I do.

I used to play spades on cases ladder and I liked their system. I don't know the algorithm exactly but it was basically a player challenges another player. If the lower player wins, they move up half way between their previous rank and the challenged players rank. There was also some decay built in so that the top guy couldn't just sit there without being taken over. If you guys come up with an algorithm I can code it up (I'm a software engineer)

Also, what is Swiss?

Swiss seems reasonable.

The last thing I will say about the ladder thing is that the nice thing about that is it is ongoing, it doesn't require anyone to play a certain person (thus you don't have scheduling issues) and if you are inactive you just decay to the bottom of the list. If you are interested I can throw together a simple program to demonstrate it and we could tweak it from there. But if not I will just shut up and go with the flow.

Well I did a quick and dirty program. This doesn't have decay but I did 100 random matches. Each player starts at 1500 points. If lower rank wins, they gain difference in points and loser loses difference/2. If higher rank wins they gain 100. This is not an algorithm we have to use, just an idea. Let me know if anyone has questions/comments.

Yeah algorithm is off somewhere cause I should have lost points but you get the idea. I can debug it if we are interested in this otherwise I am leaving it at that.

Yeah. Like I said, somebody else can come up with the algo, I could just code it. Nobody is really interested in it though ( which is fine) so just ignore it.

No. I do accidentally misclick from time to time but most of my losses on iPad comes from full-up crashes followed by a way too slow reload time to recover.

He means like a football draft where only one person would own Knife Juggler for instance. Think of each card as a "player". It probably would be cool for funsies but hard to put into practice as a league.
