Mini 1606: Whodunit? Mafia - Game Over

Whodunit? Mafia

Reviewed by: Vi, zoraster, and xRECKONERx

”Your life is good”, you kept repeating to yourself over and over as you stare at the decapitated head of the mailman staring up at you with blank eyes. You don’t know how long you screamed when you walked out to grab the morning newspaper. All you know is that it attracted all your neighbors to see what was wrong. At that moment, as you scanned the faces of those there, born of a deep instinct, you knew the culprits to be among those gathered. At that moment, you knew it was up to you to prevent this from happening again.

Game Rules

(Stolen from various sources)

Game Mechanics

1.) Votes must be bolded and in a form similar to
Vote: Playername
or VOTE: Playername. If I do not see your vote, it will not count. Unvotes are nice but not required.
2.) Lynches require a majority of votes (50% of the living players +1). If a 50% + 1 majority is not reached by deadline no lynch occurs.
3.) No Lynches require only 50% of the vote to occur.
4.) If a lynch occurs, the game enters twilight and players may continue to talk in thread until it is locked and a death scene is posted. No votes/unvotes will count in twilight.
5.) Dead players cannot talk. Once you are killed/lynched do not post in thread. Not even a "bah!" post.
6.) All actions will be resolved using the Natural Action Resolution system.

Deadlines/Activity

7.) Each Day will have a two week deadline.
8.) I will consider deadline extensions on an individual basis.
9.) Treat this game as a commitment. If you are going to be V/LA please post in thread or send me a PM.
10.) Players must post every 72 hours (unless they have noted V/LA) or they will be prodded. Three total prods during the game will result in a replacement.
11.) If a player fails to pick up their prod and post in game within 24 hours they will be replaced.
12.) Each night will last approximately 48 hours, during which time all night actions must be submitted via PM.

General

13.) Have fun and be respectful to your fellow players.
14.) Do not speak about this game outside of the thread unless your role specifies that you may do so.
15.) Do not quote anything from the moderator that is said outside of this thread (including role PMs) or pretend to quote anything from the moderator. Paraphrasing is allowed but if you are questioning your paraphrase, run it by me first.
16.) If I make a mistake, please address your grievance in bold in thread or in PM. Please point out vote count errors in thread only.
17.) Do not edit posts. Do not use invisible text. Do not use small text.
18.) At least one person received the following PM:

Hello, XXXX, and welcome to Mini-Normal #XXXX!

You are a Vanilla Townie. You have no special abilities. You win when all anti-town players have been eliminated and at least one town member is still alive.

The game thread is located here. Please confirm your role by PM.

Also, what is NM doing? Worst play I’ve ever seen.
I can't remember the last N_M post that wasn't bland, unimaginative and lame. Some shitposters are at least somewhat funny. You are the epitomy of the type of poster that nobody would miss if you were to suddenly disappear. You never add anything of value.
I'm guessing you haven't read the game and probably never will? Why even sign up to play?

Because I don't like it when players don't leave RVS votes.

Acryon, why didn't you vote? This is not your first game, so you are familiar with RVS.

Yes, but if you look at my filter, you'll see that I tend to not vote in RVS. I think that a handful of RVS votes is good to start things up, but I also think that too many can reduce the impact and responses we could get from just a handful. Scum can hide well when it's too noisy, so I prefer to not add to the noise.

How many is "a handful?"

I would consider four, only one of which has generated any content, less than a handful.

Also, have you played elsewhere before? That's a surprisingly valid argument against RVS from a newbie.

I agree that four is less than a handful, but since most people don't prescribe to my method of abstaining from RVS votes (which is totally fine), the RVS count will usually get to the limit I like without mine added.

And yeah, I've been playing IRL for ~10 years or so, but I am still getting used to this online format, and figuring out what strategies translate and which don't. So I may do some things that seem odd, and may very well be wrong for online play, but I'm getting better!

Well, there's already some discussion, regarding RVS particularly. I don't really understand how that stuff works (and therefore how many RVS votes are "too many RVS votes"), but all I've seen so far is that it eventually leads to some meaningful discussion. Also it's fun to do anyways, so I'm OK with it...

Yeah, I definitely know that my line of thinking on RVS isn't very common, and while it makes sense to me, it doesn't mean it does to everyone. So take it with a decent helping of salt. :]

RVS is the best portion of the game, and we should stay in it for at least 4 game days

I've found offering someone a beer in exchange for voting with you has less of an impact when you're not face to face.
