I stopped posting here because so many people don't take it seriously so then I said to myself "wait... why am I spending months per game taking it seriously when I get into a game with somebody who acts like SK aka a VI all the time".

Mafia used to only attract people who wanted a mental challenge but then the community grew and it became just a fun place to be and attracted people who don't care about intellectual growth.

disclaimer: idk if SK is still a shitposter or not but at least a few years ago he was and I swear if it wasn't him in my games it was somebody else. I think I had 2 good games on this site with no shit posters and I used to play a lot.

I agree with this. The game is supposed to be fun and intellectual at the same time, that's what makes it so appealing.

It's hard because I also won't play with hydras. I think that they're fundamentally compromising to the game (not that you can't figure out if they're mafia still it's like bad controls in a video game it's not an extra challenge it's just frustratingly annoying).

Anyway not to complain anymore but back when I knew most of the community it was hard to find a good game but now that I dont' know most of the people here it's impossible without taking a nose dive

I know, I haven't had to play with hydra's typically (except 1 time a mod let one sub in, and we had to let him play cuz well you know how replacements are/were on here).

And tbh I'm also quite annoyed by chronic lurkers. My own opinions aren't enough to convince a moderator to wait extra long for their game to fill so that everyone who has a history of lurking/trolling doesn't join. Most people in my experience don't care that much.

Majiffy, sometimes the world is right and sometimes the world is wrong. In this specific case, I think that mafiascum should be a more serious place. But if people disagree with that then who am I to say that it shouldn't? That's why I stopped playing.

tbh i feel like i sound much more annoyed about this than I am. I don't really mind, I am tolerant that people on this site want ot play a certain way for the most part. I just don't want to participate.

What exactly does Mafiascum.net have that sets it apart? And when I say that, I don't just mean what sets it apart from other online places where Mafia is played, but forums in general.

The notion that forums in general are dying is one that I don't have much stock in at the moment. It may be true, and history does show that things fade in and out over time, but I personally don't feel we've reached that gradual descent already.

A forum that demands the recognition of being the origin of a game—Mafia—should be distinctly unique and original. From my own biased viewpoint I think steeping this whole site in mystery and intrigue—to make people wonder and take notice—would be a step in the right direction. The game and website of Mafia should become far more themed around the mafia itself and the town roles. Have an image of what it is to be Town and Scum, and what they look like, and have each and every member's username and avatar—and everything else—be splashed in the history and theme of mafia. I think it would be neat to completely overhaul this website and imbue it in the setting of the 1920'3 and 1930's, and have everything themed around that timeline.

If we have playing members using the same pikachu and zelda and anime avatars and the same, similar sayings in their signatures, what makes what's done here any different than what can be done offsite, elsewhere? The epicenter—the core of it all—should at least appear different than the outermost aspects. If the place of origin looks and behaves just the same—or closely to it—as some random website that just happens to have some Mafia players... well, it's not really that special, is it?

I think we all want this forum to survive. But it should change and distinguish itself as different and more pure than the rest in order to do so. Be truly creative and original, and draw in outsiders because they find it unique and something to look into further.
