I can think of two possible reasons.
1. The people love puns / wordplay. Satisfy the people!
2. If he was merely given the title of "Comedian", or the same with the prefix of " The", it could be misconstrued as his being the rapey character of the same name from Watchmen, which I'm sure is a comparison he might like to avoid.
Bonus reason because 3 is lucky!:
Because he's a Mafioso comedian, and his roots must be acknowledged. Never forget The Family.

I sort of agree with this. Something like "Comedian" seems a bit easier on the eyes and gets the point across; I mean the fact that chkflip plays mafia isn't exactly a unique thing about him. But Scumedian is okay too i guess.

chkflip's title basically needs to reference the fact that he does comedy, and in itself have humor. Standup Scum and Scumedian satisfied the first part but didn't make a strong effort to actually be comedic. Stand Up Guy sounds exactly what I envision chkflip calling himself if he was running off a few one-liners during a routine.
