Right? I dunno. It almost feels like I missed some crucial quest or something that let me level up a bit and gain more resources/ammo/caps before moving onto this, but this is like...literally at the start of the game.

I'm almost mad at one of the first sidequests

Spoiler: Minor Spoilers for Early Game
The one where you're at the pumping station and have to dive down to fix the valves? Then the big crabs attack. I completely accidentally shot the questgiver during the battle (holy fuck I had to blow so many medpacks to survive) and then he was hostile to me and I had to kill him, so I failed the quest

Meh, that guy's an asshole anyway.

as of this point in the game, I'm really not a fan of the way they're doing power armor

I like the concept, but I wish they'd done it with something other than Power Armor. It's such an iconic part of the series, but they just limited it for nothing.

I never really bothered with power armour before. I actually really like the way they've done it, but damn fusion cores are a pain in the backside to collect.

Agreed. I really like the layout and look of it.

I took the perk that lets you find more ammo, and really committed to a 10mm pistol/Laser Rifle combo. Weapon Melees are helpful too.

I don't have a comp that can run it, but I've been watching LPs, and damn it looks beautiful.

The way the Deathclaw darts around and your minigun barrel glows hot is amazing.

Played cat and mouse with a raider psycho for 3 hours, pickpocketing and reloading the save, all in the name of getting his power armor.
