Fwiw a guy that knows a guy might tell you that the game is super compatible with ps2 emulators for the PC.

Flavor knowledge is helpful, but not essential. If you want a quick crash course, the Persona 4 wiki is a good place to start. (Warning: spoilers.)

Watching the persona 4 anime helps too. Not sure about the golden one as I didn't watch it personally but a 12 EPs should be 4 hours long crash course
