Star Wars: The Force Awakens

With the official trailer out now, and the film poised to possibly break box office records, I figured this deserves its own thread.

The final trailer gave me chills, especially when the music from the end of The Empire Strikes Back played during the Millennium Falcon chase scene.

I'm thinking it being a holiday movie might actually be an advantage for it, because there is so much competition during summer. I could see a $250M opening weekend, everyone is going to want to see it in IMAX if they can afford it.

I mean if Jurassic World made $208M, I think The Force Awakens should beat that.

Some analysts are predicting a possible 600 million opening weekend. I don't think it'll be that. But I think it'll break the opening weekend record.

I'm calling it right now. Combine the total box office with DVD and toy sales, and this movie will make roughly all of the money.

Jurassic World had a $525M worldwide opening weekend, so $600M isn't impossible.

Likely, even. Not only can I see everyone and their grandmother going to this movie, I can see a sizable number of people going more than once, even within the opening weekend. Most theaters will have this playing on all but a handful of screens, I imagine. I rarely see a movie in theaters, probably only twice a year. I don't think I've ever gone on opening weekend. I'll be going to this at a midnight release, probably.

Also, Lucasfilm/Disney has done a good job making sure spoilers are kept under wraps, for example, we know it is likely that Luke or Han will die, but we don't know which one. We also know Han and Leia are both in the movie, but we don't know if they are in a relationship/married.

I don't know, Han has already had himself frozen in carbonite. Also, Harrison Ford is nine years older than Mark Hamill.

Wouldn't know it looking at them.

Also, Harrison Ford is on record as hating Star Wars.

Damn.

I guess I liked Indiana Jones better anyway.

This.

So I made the mistake of not immediately getting a ticket. I couldn't get into a decent seat in a 2D showing (3D makes my eyes hurt) until Saturday. I wanted to do a Friday screening, but I guess I'm waiting now.

Han Solo dying of old age would be very bittersweet.
However I presume the process that froze him would also freeze the ageing process. Unless he got nutrients from something intraveneously. His skin would be amazingly smooth though, considering no ultraviolet exposure.

I think it's probably Han Solo turning to the camera in the second act, screaming "Fuck you nerds, I can't take it anymore!" and running away. Unable to coax him back onto the set, Abrams just has everyone go "Wow, Han suddenly died over there. Wacky!"

I mean, I am going to see it twice. Once while inebriated with friends, the second time sober with friends.

I don't think I've waited this much for any movie before. I'm going to watch the sh*t out of this movie.

MTD, that link is mind-blowing. It's an exquisite theory, and really redeems a bunch of the most jarring stuff from the prequels.
Whether or not it's true, I choose to believe it is.

I would have loved to see it at Midnight, but I don't like Star Wars THAT much to buy tickets months in advance and put up with all the children/bros/etc. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy Star Wars and I think they are good (potentially great) films yet people still overhype it beyond that and will always be disappointed.
