After turning off the computer and heading to bed, something has clicked in my head that, being white, I probably need to do something else to get this game started.

After long and thoughtful consideration, I'm going to drop a bombshell with my first move.

(move 2) Hm. I like horses.
(move 4) I dunno, I'll just toss that in there. Sorry for the delay.
(move 10) This is yet again not strictly the best move I can think of, but the most fun. I cannot abide the stagnant variety of chess, probably one of the reasons I'm not likely to ever play it seriously. :) Check.
(move 13) Buckle your seatbelts...
(move 14) Eh. I submitted a move, but I'd like to take it back - I've done one of those things where I realised it was a bit silly a few minutes after I submitted it. It was 14. Qh5. Is that okay? I can't think it matters much if you haven't actually seen it yet. If it's okay, then 14. Qf3 instead.
(move 15) Cheers.
(move 16) Checkmate. I think I should do the decent thing and offer you a takeback, if you want.

I guess we play ping-pong with editing our posts?
Everyone: Is it okay to put pieces out on a board and then test out possible moves? Or is it like over-the-board, you can only stare at the current position?

There are 4 games running:

Elmo vs Snix
Tylerj vs Garnasha
bubka vs. mith
Garnasha vs mith

Maybe in the near future it would be terrific to have a chess tournament here on MS. I'll have to ask you guys (mith, bubka, Garnasha, Tylerj, Elmo and Snix),
would you mind me keeping track of your chess score from now on?
I won't be selling it to anyone, it'll be publicly accesible on the wiki...

I've run chess tournaments on the GL before, and would be happy to do one here. (We've had a knockout or two here actually, but I didn't participate as I disliked the format.)

It's zero. I don't mean it's zero because I haven't won any games, I mean you can just write zero and forget about it and that'll keep track of it fine. But, sure!

Dunno. Elo isn't very useful for a small number of rated games anyway.

You don't play a lot of rated stuff then? I guess this will become a game of activity vs. age. Bxc6.

I never really played rated games much. I mostly used to play face-to-face, or on forums.

We didn't have one at the school I went to... thought about starting one, but never did.

When I taught a few years ago, I got my students playing chess regularly. But I was significantly better than all of them.

My chess club isn't linked to school. I go to the chess club in the neighbourhood centre, at least that's what it roughly translates to, every friday evening.
