Talk Me Out Of Getting A Tesla Model 3

So Tesla is gearing up to the release of their newest, consumer-priced offering, the Tesla Model 3

~$30,000 after $7,000 electric car government rebate
~200+ miles per charge, free charging at their stations

Not really a big sedan guy but this car looks sharp.
Love
the full-glass top.

Did some mental math on the way home from work today and I spend about $1,000 a year on gas alone.

The Tesla Supercharger station is less than 5 miles from my house.

Really contemplating selling my SUV and getting one of these bad boys.

Talk me out of it.

Hmm, cons.

They'll run big oil companies out of business. No? Hmm...
Without the need for oil, western countries and Russia will stay the heck out of the Middle East, so there won't be as much fighting once they deal with border conflicts. Not that either?
You'll be helping not kill the environment. Bah, not that.

I can't think of anything.

It's only slightly above consumer average after tax credits. And I won't have to but gas so after 5 years it's on part with consumer gas cars

My question is whether your money is tied up until then?

Google the cost of repairs

Fairly certain that information only pertains to the S model which is 3x more expensive to start.

I have no cash right now I'd get a loan for it and sell my SUV for the down payment

The insurance rates for Teslas aren't crazy right now, so flubber's concern isn't really a problem at the moment. The concern is that insurance rates could go up.

The labor costs that heavily contribute to the high cost of repairs for Teslas would presumably be lower for the Model 3, as Majiffy mentioned.

A lot of the cost repairs to my knowledge aren't expensive because the car is expensive; it's because so few people can do them.

You should get one, but you shouldn't
have
one.

I'll hold onto it for you. Then you won't want to get one because you'll remember "Oh wait, I already have one. Khan's holding onto it for me."

Problem solved.

I think you're overestimating the savings on petrol. You're going to end up charging it at home sometimes just because having to drive somewhere to charge it is a pain in the dick, so you're not going to be spending
nothing
to run it.

Uh no

The charging station is a 5 minute drive from my house, in heavy traffic.

There is no scenario where I couldn't just charge it on any day off in two weeks.

If it's in a nice area, hell, you could drop it off every couple days and go for a run. Save on a gym membership too.

I'unno, you said five miles. I certainly wouldn't want to have to drive five miles to fill up.
