Titles have value because the community on the site at some point in time decided they had value. They decided that you had to be nominated for something and it had to get approved and whatnot. If the community wanted titles to be worthless, people would still be able to set their rank to whatever they wanted. But over time, the title process became more strict and serious, not less. This is the first time during my stay on the site that I feel like people want titles to become meaningless. Maybe it's a few vocal shitters or maybe it really has become the majority opinion, idk. But it makes me sad :(

like they "matter" and shouldn't be super shitty and be relevant to the person but when reasons are like "This well-known joke isn't good enough" ???

If you've got an issue with the fairy then talk to the fairy about it. Still have an issue, talk to zor. But good luck finding a better fairy than Chevre.

I experienced this during my tenure and I would've thought you did too.

I think it totally is a few vocal shitters, every time I felt like people wanted stuff to be worthless I'd ask in thread or make a new thread to discuss the community approach to titles and the response was almost all that they liked the stricture. I think the dissatisfied and liberal-titling (and often newer) members are the louder and more demanding members.

It's part of why I quit. I felt like people that cared about titles had become the minority. I'd love to be wrong.

Well this escalated quickly...

I think Titles are neat and need to be earned, and have a decent number of people show interest, and have the person approve. The process is great!

I don't think that should effect our ability to havr fun with them though. Why must it be all serious? And why must we drive away people who are having fun, like Zakk, who is creative, even if his suggestions don't seem to strike a chord here.

Titles are both serious and fun, and that's the joy of them!

Aaaand Ninja'd 5 times...

Let's get back on topic, please.

Nom UTL for Scum Bud.

This is a quote from the Speakeasy, but I feel it fits because of the general joke that UTL is a Golden Retriever. That said, there's at least one other person who fits the persona of a dog, (the only one I can remember right now is Cheery Dog) but I don't have experience with Cheery being referred to as a dog as much as I do UTL.

My only problem with that is it makes me think of Scum Buddies, not dogs...

Scum Bud is in relation to Air Bud and all other surrounding movies. It's a reference to the movie along with the mafiascum theme.

Like, I totally get it, it's just that it's not at all what I think of when I read it without context.

Most titles don't have context either.
