nothing has topped the surprise and excitement I experienced when I thought I was done with Gold/Silver and then was told I could go to Kanto

Hmm that's a fair point
I always thought of the G/S/C Kanto as being shallow, though.
Something still gets me when I hear the Hoenn Trumpets

Leaf Green and Fire Red were the first ones with wireless trade though

I don't think I ended up playing Platinum (my brother did, but not I), but Pearl alone made 4 one of my favourites
I also loved Emerald and the Battle Island thingymabob with all the different places was great, so I don't know if RS were just crap but ORAS was painfully underwhelming compared to both Emerald and XY. I've spent just over 20 hours on OR. I've already spent 50 on Moon, and I spent around 210 hours on Y.

Anyone who has not answered Red or Blue is objective incorrect, and should feel bad about themselves.

I really really loved the story in Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team, but you know what was somehow ten times better? Explorers of Time/Space. That shit was a dramatic-ass deep and complex story that made me cry multiple times
