Most likely, yeah. There's also a good chance that contest deadlines get extended during the holidays, just as a heads up to people.
In post 11, Aristophanes wrote:Am I kicked out because I missed the last voting period or did we scrap that rule?

Prolly not in anyway just was curious tbh
You are not banned, we stopped doing that.
In post 14, Cyril wrote:hey tool quick question
the song i want to submit is a collaboration by multiple artists, one of whom has won a contest before, would that be banned per SC rules? if so i'll just wait until BotB to submit i guess
I haven't really taken the time to write an official rule on this, but here are my thoughts.

Most collaborations have a primary artist, somebody to whom the song is credited. Smooth is by Santana, though Rob Thomas is a huge part of it.

It's the primary artist that counts for determining eligibility. So if a song features an artist who has won a previous contest (or who has been entered within the past 15 contests),
but they are not the primary artist
, then the entry will be accepted.

This might not cover 100% of the possibilities, but I've found it's been a workable approach.

(would be my entry)
So this theme from Sonic Colors is arguably my favorite Sonic song of all time. Some people say Shadow the Hedgehog's theme, or some other popular theme song, but this is my favorite because it's not all too hard-core, has great vocals and great lyrics, and the drumbeat is absolutely insane. Sonic Colors is also home to the greatest line in gaming history of all time:
"Dr. Eggman, I AM going to save this planet, and I AM going to free these aliens.
No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me.
"
Spoiler:
I won't claim to be an expert on Sonic series vocal tracks but this one seems blandly autotuned. "I'm gonna reach for the stars/Although they look pretty far" is not a lyric that will win extra points. It's not offensive, but it's not noteworthy and it goes on for a third verse that probably wasn't necessary. Still, I'd probably give it points in practice. 3.3/6

Dutch song: This is Duncan Laurence's follow-up to Eurovision-winning Arcade. It's definitely less spectacular than that one. In fact, I don't even seem to like it that much. But it's Duncan Laurence and I can imagine some others liking it. It's not too bad, it's just a bit underwhelming from what I expected of a follow-up.
Spoiler:
It's still auto-tuned and particularly inoffensive, but it's in a more interesting style. The music video is made of ow my eyes. I would rate this higher than the other song. 3.5/6

IDK I feel like I shouldn't be rating things while this tired, but yeah something like this

Sorry guys. Defaulting last round tild me I'm too busy to do this atm or I'd be in. It's unfair to enter if I can't follow through. Would've given yku another throwaway anyway because despite being a beautiful piece it would have been a Holiday song.

Libya- Edison Glass- this was an interesting song, i liked the switches to the cadence and the group aspect of everything. I dug this.

Turkey- New Pornographers- i started listening to this one while i was doing something and ended up listening to most of the album. I feel like ive listened to something from these guys before and liked it, but i cant think of what.

North Korea- Blues Traveler- BT is a band that i like hearing like once every 2-3 years. I hear them, remember they existed and go about my next 2-3 years in peace.

Soviet Union- Yolka- no idea what she was saying, but i dug this, it reminded me of riding in the car listening to my moms 90s pop music. Lots of Ace of Base.

Iceland- Sufjan Stevens and friends- this was ok, kinda unfulfilling, like it had no crescendo to it.

Poland- Danny Gonzalez- I actually started watching this guys other videos recently, hes decent. Entertaining enough.

Djibouti- August Burns Red- this was a decent attempt at a christmas song, got boring though.

Germany- Blind Guardian- this sounds like it could be a cool rock opera.

USA- Colette- this was ok, not a huge fan of the yelling vocals though.

Costa Rica- Bjork- nah. to repetitive.

Solomon Islands- Kaleidoscope- if you dont pay attention to the lyrics its not a bad background song, listening to the lyrics freaked me out. I may have been to high or not high enough. I wasn't able to get high enough, I tried.

Greenland- L'Arc~en~Ciel- no.

Chad- Ed Schrader- I watch a ot of videos with a guy who breaks down videos on youtube that are args and in one video he goes over a clip that ran on adult swim called "Unedited footage of a bear" and it featured a fake commercial for a drug, shit gets intense and this song comes on at a pivotal point and it gets stuck in your head. I recommend watching the adult swim clip too if you wanna see some funky shit,

I sort of had reviews written up last contest but half of them were just some variation of "this isn't my thing", but I made sure to write up some first impressions early this time:

Spoiler:
Ranked from 1 to 5 based on how likely I am / happy I'd be to give points to said song.

Solomon Islands - Ugh, don't tell me there's going to be like five 8 minute tracks this contest again. This is pretty meh. Nothing about this strikes out, and I don't know why there needed to be 8 minutes of it. 1/5

Djibouti - This doesn't really sound like Christmas music at all :/. It's a bit better than Solomon I guess, but not by a whole lot. I guess this is like decent backgound music or something, and at least there's some variation to it, but I wouldn't listen to it again. 2/5

Germany - Is this going to be metal again? ... Oh, I guess not? Anyways, this isn't really my genre of music, but at least it's listenable. 2/5

USA - This is sick. Hooked me in right in the intro. I was expecting it to me more future bass-esque by the intro, but this is still pretty nice. Well, at least until the screaming, but it's not that bad. A pretty intersting mix of rock instrumentation with future bass riffs/harmonies. Wouldn't listen to it again, mostly because of the screaming, but it was a good listen. 5/5

Soviet Union - Ooh, Russian music. Catchier than I anticipated. The sound is a bit dated, but it's my kind of dated. The accordian(?) is a bit unexpected but nice. Pretty solid pop tune. I dig. 5/5

Costa Rica - Fairly nice ambient music. The instrumentation is pretty unique and out-there. This would be nice background music, but I can't see myself listening to this as the main focus, if that makes sense. It goes on for too long with too little variation to listen attentively to it, but yeah I left this running while writing this and it was nice, so that counts for something. 3/5

Iceland - Wow, that's a lot of featured artists. Kind of in the same vain of Costa Rica in regards to "nice music to listen in the background but not the foreground". I prefer Costa Rica a bit more, but this isn't bad. Sounds pretty spacey/out-there, which I guess makes sense considering it's about Jupiter. Did not expect the instrumental shifts in the last 2 minutes, first with the repeated kick then the orchastraic ending. The ending is especially nice. Didn't know clyp was a site that existed before today, so I guess I learned something new out of it too. 3/5

Poland - Hey, a Christmas song that actually sounds Christmasy. Unfortunetaly, this is the bad type of trap mixed with the bad type of Christmas music. Honestly it isn't even really that funny? I don't think much paraody music is funny anyhow, but like lyrically this is on-par with "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer", but at least that song has sheer absurdity going for it. 1/5

Chad - Thought this said Ed Sheeran at first. Didn't help that the guy at the right kind of looks like him. Oh yeah, and the song itself is bleh. Like I wouldn't listen to this unless like it's an album interlude or something, but at least it's short. 1/5

Turkey - Eh? I mean it's not a terrible listen, but like there's nothing too interesting about it either. Another short track, at least. 2/5

North Korea - Pretty decent. Doesn't sound much different from other country/whatever-this-genre-is, but it's nice. Pretty laid-back, like driving on a country-side. Harmonica solo is sick too. 3/5

Libya - Intro is really sick. Really like the riffs in this. Short too, which is nice for song contests. Fairly experimental in structure. Nice listen. 4/5

~

Greenland - Had I known there wasn't going to be much Christmas music submitted I might've pushed this back a week, but it's fine. A lot of Christmas music is annoying and dated, but one great thing about the season is it brings back a lot of jazzy-music you don't really hear much in popular radio anymore, and that's my favorite type of Christmas music. This song is fairly out of the range for this band, who usually makes more edgier/hard-rock type stuff iirc, but I don't listen to them much anyways.

As for the song itself, I really love the jazzy vibes in this. The almost orchastraic instrumentation is really nice and feel-good. The composition throughout is pretty consistently jazzy and flows really nice. I like the chorus especially -- it has that kind of strong emotional impact that I really like that I can't describe too well, but it's probably due to the unconvintial jazzy-chords sprinkled throughout. Very nice Christmas song despite not understanding most of the lyrics, but Christmas music is mostly about the feeling anyways.

This contest was alright, but the lack of submissions overall made this contest pretty easy to go through despite like half of them being 8 minute tracks, which is nice. It is going to make it pretty hard to decide how to order my list though, mostly because I can't care for half of the submissions.

I've listened to the other half and this is still an overall fantastic contest.

On reflection that means that it's probably less-than-ideal for a bundle of other people, though...
