As a departure from my mechanically complex recent games I'm considering running a pretty straightforward Open.
The idea isn't particularly original and is roughly inspired by the party game Superfight, so it may already exist.
10 VT
3 Goon
No factional Nightkill.
4 Phase system.
Phase #1: The Day
Players vote to eliminate as usual.
Phase #2: The Dusk
The Mafia proposes 2 players who have not been in a fight to engage in a fight. If no living players are eligible, they must choose players who have been in the fewest number of fights. The eliminated player may choose flavor for the fight.
Phase #3: The Night
The two fighting players must submit a fighter, described in 7 or fewer words.
Phase #4: The Dawn
The thread is locked. All players must vote on a fighter to win, using whatever criteria they personally desire.
The votes for the fighters are published at the beginning of the next Day Phase and the person submitting the losing fighter dies.

That's fair, and I agree that it's very unlikely that scum would put a scum player in a fight, but it's not impossible and as such is a Nash equilibrium. (There exists a nonzero percentage of the time where it is the "right" choice, but that percentage of the time relies on the perception of how often it is the right choice.)
Numbers wise do you think 9v2 would be better?
Keeping in mind that 11v2 is observably scumsided in mountainous games with a stronger scum meta, I am worried that there isn't enough to the mechanic to overcome the scumsidedness, but also ms scumteams suck right now as a whole.
Also, should both fighters be revealed or just one? If both are revealed, players should just out what they will use going into the fight phase to make people choosing which side they're on non fight based and that seems unfun.
I suppose there could be constraints on the fighters imposed after the Dusk phase to combat that, but that just adds complexity.
I think the game would be more interesting if scum team is obligated to pick 2 players that have not fought instead of throwing the same person in there.
so for example if 5 players have been in a fight and 2 have not. the two who have not are obligated to fight.
Once all players have fought, scum are free to put in people with 1 fight to their name etc.

I feel like if mafia come up with it it's less likely to be interesting because they won't want to give themselves away, but I could definitely see including something along those lines. Could be a cool addition, even just as a flavor thing from the mod.
Of course, there's no objective criteria for who 'wins' so gameplay wise the circumstance wouldn't really be meaningful.
