Cheese Thief | Game 1 Over

A micro social deduction game about finding which mouse stole the cheese.

You are all cute little mice. And you have a lovely bit of cheese that you are all going to enjoy tomorrow morning. But for now it's time to go to sleep. Let's hope none of you are a cheese thief!

In this game, players receive a secret role of either the Cheese Thief or a Sleepyhead. Everyone closes their eyes to sleep for the night and only wake up at specific times decided by their own dice roll. The Cheese Thief will steal the cheese, while the Sleepyheads may check around. During the subsequent discussion, the Cheese Thief will try to get away with the cheese undetected and the Sleepyheads will try to hunt the thief down together.

: This is a game where we get to manipulate and lie to others. Beyond that please keep it civil, I don't ever want to reach the point where I don't want to read the game I'm running. If you feel like a player has gone too far but hasn't stopped after you ask them to please contact me.

Readability

: Everyone should be able to read your posts. This is an English language site so use English. Avoid using text

Deadlines, Activity and V/LA

Night-time

: The game is locked during pre-game and the night. Once all Role PMs have been sent people have 48 hours to reply via PM to confirm their post, and perform any night actions they might be able to.

Day-time

: The day-time lasts for 7 days (168 hours). At the end of that time period the votes will be locked in and the result will be revealed. If all players agree I will end the day early.

Prods and replacements

: You will be prodded after not posting for 48 hours, or 72 hours over the weekend or when

V/LA

. You will have 24 hours to post or be replaced.

V/LA

: You can go Vacation/Low Access by requesting in thread, by PM or the option in your User Control Panel. If you are V/LA for longer than 72 hours with no expectation of access request a replacement instead. I reserve the right to seek a replacement if a player is V/LA for a long period of time.

Game Actions and Death

Night Actions

: Night actions can be submitted by PM. You will be prompted about any actions you can take during the night in your Role PM.

Voting

: You can vote for a player with VOTE: XXXX vote tags. At the end of the day the player with the most votes or players tied for the most votes will have their role cards revealed and we'll find out who won.

You will receive your role, and a time between 1am and 6am based on the roll of a 6 sided die.

Night-Time

You will wake up at a time determined by your die roll. You will learn all other players who wake up with you. You will learn whether or not you see the

Cheese

Thief

wakes up they will steal the

Cheese

and any other awake players will see this.

When a

Sleepyhead

wakes up, if no one else wakes up at that time, they choose one player and learn the time they wake up at.

Day-Time

The player with the most votes, or players tied for the most votes will have their role cards revealed. The

is revealed, otherwise the

Cheese

Thief

and their

win.

The Fall Mouse

The

Fall Mouse

is an optional role that replaces a

Sleepyhead

in a game with 6 or more players.

During the night they behave as a

wins, and wins alone, by having their role card revealed during the vote.

So, this is my first time playing this, so I don't actually know what is the optimal strategy, but I think there are certain things to keep in mind:

1. There's only one day phase, so we're probably going to all have to claim everything before the end of the day.
   
2. The Cheese Thief is probably going to claim falsely, in order to hide their identity. And the follower is probably also going to fake claim in order to cover for the Cheese thief.
   
3. Therefore, if we can force the cheese thief to claim the true hour which they woke up, we'll have somewhat of an easier time (compared to if we let them claim whatever they want).

So the strategy I suggest, is:

1. Don't claim info yet. Start by a popcorn massclaim of hours.
   
2. if you saw the cheese thief, just claim that you saw them and at what time.
   
3. if you woke up alone, claim the real time you woke up. Don't CC others who claim your time, just claim time when it's your turn.
   
4. if you woke up with another person who isn't the cheese thief (or with 2 other people), one of you should claim the real time you woke up, and the others should claim fake times that have not yet been taken by others. Ex: If A, B and D all woke up at 1 AM, and C woke up at 2 AM, so the claim could go like this:
   A: I woke up at 1 AM. B: I woke up at 2 AM. C: I woke up at 2 AM. D: I woke up at 4 AM.
   Or, like this:
   A: I woke up at 3 AM. B: I woke up at 1 AM. C: I woke up at 2 AM. D: I woke up at 5 AM.

Since the Cheese thief would not be able to tell who's lying EXCEPT if the person lying is claiming the time the cheese thief woke up, the cheese thief will have much fewer possibilites for fake claiming, if any possibility at all (since they can't risk claiming a time where someone else woke up and 1v1ing this other person.)

Good thinking because I was planning to suggest tying between the cheese thief and the suspected follower.

I don't think lying about wake up time is as likely as you think it is, since if cheese thief or follower lie about their wake up time & somebody checked their die that just forces them into an unneccesary 1v1. However I do think the strategy is a good idea.

How do you want to decide who starts the popcorn massclaim?

I don't think lying about wake up time is as likely as you think it is, since if cheese thief or follower lie about their wake up time & somebody checked their die that just forces them into an unneccesary 1v1.

Let me explain why the Cheese Thief is likely to fake claim:
Let's say theoretically that the cheese thief woke up at 1 AM, one player woke at 2, one player woke at 3, two players woke at 4, and one woke at 5.
They all claim the time truthfully, then there's guaranteed to be a 1v1 between cheese thief and the person who woke at 2.
If TWO people wake at 2 instead (and Cheese Thief truthfully claims being the only one to wake up at 1), then Cheese Thief is caught and it's game over for them immediately.
So the Cheese Thief cannot truthfully claim UNLESS they have a partner who's lying for them, or if they are feeling really lucky.

I have a concern that literally only arises because of what mallow said. Mallow just confirmed that there's an open timeslot that's unused. Cheese Thief can just slot in at the end now if they want to, but I also just feel generically sus that of calling the last person to claim sus
