SETUP RULES

  • This game will be played between 2 players.
  • The basic rules for the game are located here. This game is based on the American Game Show Network version of the game with some minor alterations.
  • After the game is over, I will put all players back into the queue automatically. If you wish to remove yourself, please contact me either in the thread or via PM.
  • Players may (and are encouraged) to play as many times as they like.
  • There will be no formal deadlines for making plays, but please be respectful of everyone else. If you think you're going to be V/LA for an extended period of time, then replace out or have someone else play for you until you get back.
  • Players are ranked according to their wins first, historical worth second, losses third and championship streak fourth. Historical worth is cumulative over every game played, win or lose.

GAME RULES

Object

  • Two players attempt to guess at compound words or two-word phrases that are revealed one letter at a time. Successful guesses yield money and the person with the most money at the end of the game wins.

How to Play

  • There are four total chains during the main game. Each chain will consist of seven words that can be strung together to form a "chain". All connecting words in the chain will be two-word phrases or compound words that relate to one another somehow.
  • After a dice-based coin flip to see which player goes first, the player with control is allowed to reveal one letter somewhere in the chain. The letter must be the first letter of the word (or second letter if the first letter is already revealed, third letter if the second letter is, and so forth). The top and bottom words will be revealed at the start of the chain.
  • Players do not have to have a letter revealed if they don't want to do so. Additionally, I will not reveal the last letter of a word. If we reach the final letter, I will use an underscore ( "_" ) to signify that there is only one remaining letter. If both players are unable to guess a word after all but the last letter is revealed, the word is revealed and neither player earns money for that word.
  • After the letter is revealed the player has a chance to guess a word.
    Bolding
guesses is encouraged, but it's not required. If correct, the player wins a specific amount of money depending on the round. If incorrect, control goes to the other player. If a player does not know the word, they may say
    No Guess
    /
    Pass
. Players are not penalized for guessing wrong, however.
  • A player must spell the word precisely in their guess. Adding/missing an extra letter (such as an 's') or using the wrong form/tense of a word will be an incorrect guess. I will make exceptions in rare circumstances (e.g. different spellings of the word based on British/American English).
  • A player may guess any word on the chain, even if they did not reveal a letter on that specific word.
  • In round one, each correct word is worth $100, round two words are worth $200 and words in round three are worth $300. Whichever player is behind going into a round starts the next round (in the event of a tie, the player who did not start the last chain starts the next chain). In the fourth round (known as the "Betting Round"), players can wager between $100 and $500 of their bank before asking for a letter. If correct, they win their bet and keep control, if not, they lose their bet and control. A player automatically loses if they go broke, and the game ends immediately.
  • Players may now resign from a game if they choose. This concludes the game. The player that resigns automatically loses but gets to keep whatever amount is in their bank. Their opponent wins and keeps whatever amount is in their bank.
  • If the fourth round ends in a tie, the two players will each be given a "speed chain" of four words. The two outermost words will be revealed, and the two innermost words will have only the first letter revealed. Both players will PM the moderator an answer to the speed chain. Speed chains will continue until one player does not come up with the correct answers.

Tier/Ladder System

  • As long as there are enough players, eight games are played simultaneously, each game corresponding with a specific tier. The tiers are as follows: Championship, Tier I, Tier II and Tier III.
  • Tier III is the bottom tier. This is where new players begin and where players that lose games end up. There will be four concurrent games running in Tier III. Players that win in this tier move up to Tier II. Players that lose in this tier stay at Tier III.
  • Tier II will have two concurrent games. Players that win in this their move up to Tier I. Players that lose in this tier move back to Tier III.
  • Tier I will have one game. The player that wins moves up to the Championship game. The player that loses moves back to Tier III.
  • The winner of the Championship game gets to stay and play the next challenger. The loser of the Championship game moves back to Tier III.
  • JDGA's also explains this system in further detail.

Rule update (9/28/14)
: Players may guess at any word in the chain, even if they did not reveal a letter for the word they're guessing at.
Rule update (10/11/14)
: Fixed a typo and players may now resign from a game if they choose. The player that resigns automatically loses but gets to keep whatever amount is in their bank.
Their opponent may continue to finish out the chain if desired.

Rule update (11/29/14)
: Players may not continue playing after a resignation or if another player goes broke. The game is over immediately in both instances.
Rule update (1/22/15)
: Clarified that guesses must be exact. Created an explanation for the Tier/Ladder system.
Rule update (2/20/15)
: If all but the last letter of a word has been revealed in the betting round, a player may bet $0 and guess at that specific word.
Rule update (4/1/15)
: Fixed typos.
Rule update (6/3/15)
: Elaborated on the object of the game.
Rule update (10/1/15)
: Fixed a typo, elaborated on the terms of resignations and explained the use of an underscore in chains.
Rule update (1/29/17)
: Fixed a typo, elaborated on the object of the game again.

Also, guys, let me know your opinion on whether I should have two different players every game (if there are people in the queue), or if I should let the winner keep playing until they lose.

I'm at least another game away anyway, so it doesn't matter to me.

Also, what is NM doing? Worst play I’ve ever seen.
I can't remember the last N_M post that wasn't bland, unimaginative and lame. Some shitposters are at least somewhat funny. You are the epitomy of the type of poster that nobody would miss if you were to suddenly disappear. You never add anything of value.
I'm guessing you haven't read the game and probably never will? Why even sign up to play?
