I actually enjoyed the messenger more than hollow knight, in a lot of ways hollow knight is a "better game" but playing a metroidvania that is paced rk have a very slim specific amount of backtracking and no grinding felt nice.

I always thought that backtracking (or at least, incentivizing backtracking) was an integral part of metroidvanias. Not sure what it would look like with that factor nerfed or removed.
