Rules

Download the full rules PDF
here
. Below is the short version.
  1. Each player will start with a hand of cards.
  2. On your turn, pick one card you wish to keep, then pass the rest of your hand to the next player. Passing happens simultaneously.
  3. Reveal the card you've kept.
  4. Repeat until all cards have been played.
  5. Score the hand.
  6. Reshuffle the cards (except desserts) and add dessert cards as needed.
  7. After 3 hands, determine final scores. The player with the highest score is the winner!
Forum-Specific Rules
  • Each round will have a deadline of 24 hours to send me your card choice.
  • The first two times you miss a deadline, you will be prodded and given a strike. If you do not submit 24 hours after the prod, you will play randomly.
  • The third time you miss a deadline, you will be replaced.
  • If you are using a card that has additional actions, such as Chopsticks, Menu or Spoon, send me the additional action along with your choice.
  • Table talk is permitted but you may
    not
privately message any other player about the game.
  • It is wildly against the spirit of the game to either keep records of your past hands or go back through your PMs to see what you passed on.
Signups

To signup, post /in below, along with your sushi selection. In order to sign up you MUST choose one of the types of sushi to add to the deck, following the rules listed below. If you post an incorrect sushi selection, or none at all, you will
not
be added to the player list and your spot may be stolen! The eighth player to sign up is permitted to swap one previously chosen sushi with another in the same category of their choice, or actively declare that they will not switch any cards.

Alright, we're off with 7! Our menu is as follows:

Nigiri

Nigiri are an essential part of any great sushi meal.

ImageImageImage

Egg, Salmon, and Squid Nigiri are worth 1, 2 and 3 points respectively. There are three of each in the deck.

Uramaki

Uramaki rolls are inside-out. Race your friends to eat ten of them!

ImageImageImage

During a round, if you are the first to have at least 10 icons at the top of your played uramaki cards, you immediately score 8 points and discard your cards. The next player to collect 10 icons scores 5 points, and the third player scores 2. At the end of the round, the player with the most uramaki icons in front of them scores points for the next unclaimed place. You may score multiple sets of Uramaki in a round. There are twelve total Uramaki cards in the deck, four each of the 3-icon, 4-icon, and 5-icon varieties.

Sashimi

A true delicacy, sashimi takes time to fully appreciate.

Image

If you have 1 or 2 Sashimi, you score 0. If you have 3 Sashimi, you score 10. You may score multiple sets of Sashimi in a round. There are eight Sashimi cards in the deck.

Tofu

Tofu is really good for you, but eat too much and you could get sick of it.

Image

If you have 1 Tofu, you score 2 points. If you have 2 Tofu, you score 6 points. If you have 3 or more Tofu, all are worth 0 points. There are eight Tofu cards in the deck.

Onigiri

These rice balls come in all different shapes - get one of each!

ImageImageImageImage

There are 4 different shapes of onigiri: rectangle, circle, triangle and square. Score points based on how many unique shapes you collect. A set of one shape scores 1 point; a set of two unique shapes scores 4 points; three unique shapes scores a total of 9 points; and a set of all four shapes scores 16 points. You may score multiple sets of Onigiri in a round. There are 2 of each shape in the deck.

Chopsticks

Use chopsticks to grab those two dishes you really need at the same time.

Image

Nothing happens on the turn when you initially play Chopsticks. However, on a future turn you may choose to play two cards from your current hand. The Chopsticks card is then placed into your hand before it is passed on. An unused chopsticks is worth 0 points at the end of a round. There are 3 Chopsticks in the deck.

Spoon

Grab that dish you missed out on earlier by reaching over and taking it with your spoon.

Image

Nothing happens on the turn when you initially play a Spoon. However, on a future turn, you may send a spoon request with your play. This can be as vague or as specific as you like; for example, you may request any Nigiri, or a specific Onigiri shape. Once the cards are played, the first player in the turn order from you who has that card in their hand will give it to you in exchange for your Spoon. If nobody has that card, the Spoon is discarded. The Spoon cannot be used to take cards which have already been played. An unused Spoon is worth 0 points. There are 3 Spoon cards in the deck.

Pudding

Pudding is the perfect end to a meal - make sure you don’t miss it!

Image

Unlike the rest of the cards, Pudding cards are not reshuffled into the deck, but kept in front of you until the end of the game. At the end of the game, players compare how many pudding cards they have. The player with the most scores 6 points. The player with the fewest (including 0) loses 6 points. If multiple players tie for most or fewest, all tied players gain or lose the full points.

In the first round, 7 Pudding cards will be added to the deck. In the second, 5 will be added; and in the final round, 3 additional Pudding cards will be shuffled into the deck.
