Mish Mash Scummies 2018 - Nominations

Mish Mash Awards
  • Best General Mish Mash Game
    Spoiler: Description
Also known as the "Mashtermind" award. This award is for the moderator. Any game that is run in Mish Mash -- other than the ones excluded by the below category -- is eligible for this award. It can be a board game! It can be an endless, continuous game with no end! It can be a game show! Hell, it can be a beauty pageant for all we care! What mod really rocked it out and made their game extra special this year?
  • Best Social Game
    Spoiler: Description
This award is for the moderator(s). This award can be given to any game that has a decent number of players and relies on social manipulation. Yes, obviously, your Survivor games and Big Brother games will go here. But so can The Mole, or Amazing Race, or any sort of game that involves a reality-style competition. Running these games can be a long, difficult, arduous process, and nobody is perfect, but if you feel a mod did a great job, toss up their name for consideration.
  • Best Overall Mish Mash Player
    Spoiler: Description
Also known as the "Smash Mouth" award. This award goes to the person who best exemplified what it takes to be a great Mish Mash Player throughout the year! They were smart, strategic, and tactical? Check. They were enjoyable, nice, and pleasant? Check. Did you sign up for a game when they did because you wanted to play with them? Then this is the award for them!
  • Best New Player
    Spoiler: Description
This award goes to the person who's fairly new, and has made the largest, most positive impact on the community in the short time they've been here. New players are always getting involved with our section of the site, and everyone should be encouraged to be the best they can be.
Policies
  1. In order to be considered by the Mish Mash Scummy judging committee, a nomination must be seconded, but additional nths will increase a nominee's chances.
  2. Nominations with LINKS and descriptions of why you wish to nominate a player or game are greatly appreciated.
  3. Please
    bold
who/what you are nominating and for what award.

Nominate The Challenge: The Void for Best Social Game

The challenge design in this game was just incredibly good. A vast majority of new ideas and a vast majority of those worked really well in the format and were more fun than most other social game challenges I've played. I'd love to see more games going forward take a page from this game in challenge design, not that that's easy as the mods obviously did a ton of work on that.

The social element was worked in such a way that it stayed fun and light -- you could do as much or as little of it as you wanted and still have a shot to do well, which I thought was pretty neat. As far as I know, the Void/Black Hole mechanic was original, and it worked well to create what the game was trying to be.

Seconded

Obviously it's the Mods who get the award. You know who they are, but it was Pabs and CC. Great challenges, many of which haven't really been seen before, and a good innovative twist on an already interesting reality show format.

Nominate
The Genius
for
Best Social Game

Adapting The Genius to a forum setting is a task that seems fairly difficult to do, but the mods of The Genius did a spectacular job of it.

First off I will mention that the mods chose to disable PMs for the game, and instead allowing players to communicate through forums in a way similar to One World. Player could move around every 4-6 hours to a different room, giving them new opportunities to talk to other players. This mechanic probably wasn’t strictly necessary to run a Genius game, but it made the game so much better. It added a new element to the game of having to coordinate movements with other players. It gave a great cast of players new ways to interact and form alliances. And it made the game feel more real, and made the scheming feel more intense. This couldn’t have been an easy thing to keep up and the mods did a fantastic job of it so I give a lot of credit to them for this.

The main matches of the show make up the bulk of the Genius show, so having incredible matches for a game adaption was very important. And I think the mods did equally well here. Some of these were adapted from the show, some from board games, and some were original concepts. The lineup of main matches for this game was pretty impressive though, and the vast majority of the 11 games were executed well. Even though it lasted way too long, I have to give special credit to the game “Prison Break” which was a very interesting and well-designed game that fit in with the Genius concept really well. The duels for the game were also pretty good, and I think a lot of them were better than the duels used on the show.

I’ve played a lot of games on forums over the years, and I think that this was the most impressive one that I’ve played. It was inspirational, memorable, and absolutely fantastic, and for that reason I believe it should be a contender for this award.

FYI, pretty much every game that gets run through the LSG queue gets considered for the award automatically but voicing support helps the decision get made

Nominate
Family Game Night
by Mallowgeno
for
Best General Mish Mash Game

(I'm not trying to flood the thing with nominations, I've been planning to nom this for awhile tbh)

Family Game Night was a really fun collection of board games put together into a neat format. Mallowgeno was a really good and active host. Would definitely love to see a sequel to this happen at some point, its a really good concept.

Just about to do this, so
2nd Family Game Night

On a different note, what are Smash Mouth and Mashtermind supposed to be? I got Smash Mouth for best game for 2017, but the description for this year says that's Mashtermind while Smash Mouth is best social game.

Nominate mallowgeno for Best Overall Mish Mash Player

mallow is extremely active in the Mish Mash forum and makes every game he's in better. He mods a lot of great smaller games too and deserves some GODDAMN recognition.

I'd like to nominate
Locke Lamora
for Best Overall Mish Mash Player. Guy has 4 1st place finishes in our head to head baseball league and 2 2nd places. I looked in auction and I can't tell but he's currently in first place with 82 points.

He has a 1st place finish in league 1 of our h2h football league.

I would like to
Nominate Race to 1500 for Best General Mish Mash game.

The primary reason is the game's popularity; not only have over 100 games been played in that one thread, but I think it also has one of the highest (if not the highest) page counts in all of mish mash. That's really says something about the game. Furthermore, the host (mallowgeno) has been very active and done a great job of maintaining the game. Aside from that, I like the simplicity of the concept, and I also find the game fun.

I thought nothing would come close to the Void's challenge design - boy was I wrong. This game was fantastic in all aspects - excellent challenges, mostly great twists, a fantastic narrative and one hell of an ending.
