that sure is the only thing i'm really associating with dark

maybe cold? maybe torch because it combats the dark? maybe screen because it can be bright or dark? maybe mole because they dig in the dark?

Yeah, I agree with starting with SPACE. Of Save The Dragons' suggestions, TORCH would be the next word I'd try since they're typically used in the dark. The others (except arguably SCREEN) are a bit stretchy for me to be comfortable with right now.
