There were TWO oil clues. Engine was oil, whale was oil and size, dwarf was size.

I think that he gave us size and 3 and we need to pick 3 for size and that would leave 1 left over and you picked engine which goes with oil

We don't need to pick 3 for size. His options were either give us 3 or give us infinite so we would have enough guesses. Infinite would have risked us assuming only one word was related to size.
