I've always heard that called the "royal wave."

I agree that wave was likely what's intended. I think he had a choice between "queen" and "princess" to try to clue the 3, with queen being better connected to wave while princess being better connected to fair, and he likely didn't consider the "hand of the princess" in choosing.

I don't understand the club connection, and I'm not sure what a goodwrench is, though I have a vague recollection that there's a car-related chain called goodwrench motors.

flute and slug would both be pretty difficult to clue up to this point, while match would have been far easier.

If I were to yolo, I'd go slug, but we'll see what pine weighs in with.

Yeah, if it were match, I think so many of the blues are related to hardware that it's hard to imagine HC doesn't give us something like LOWE'S 4/5 near the outset.

Piccolo -> slug relies on pretty specific knowledge that the DBZ guy has little green antennae, but I also struggle to come up with a good clue for it. SCOOT 2 would be pretty unambiguous given rhymes allowed, but seems uncertain that he thinks in that direction.
