I'm going to act like I actually know what these are (but really by tastes just suck, so I'll vote on based on their images, which is all I can really do unless someone comes here and forces me to do a blind taste test)

btw haschel, thank you for not straight up classifying gnocchi as a dumpling. I really hate when people say it’s a dumpling because I have a very strict definition of what is classified as a dumpling (a la the “what is a sandwich” argument, but for dumplings. I am a dumpling purist).

Tater Tots
- ah, deep frying. Is there nothing it can't solve?
Gnocchi
- no contest. Potato salad nauseates me; gnocchi is tasty.

Tots
Hasselback looks like so much prepwork, and I ain't got the time for that when I want tasty taters.

Salad
Gnocchi is *fine* but it also has a weird texture, and there's so many different ways to make potato salad, and I like versatility.

Next time you visit I'm making you a Hasselback potato.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of tater tots, like they're ok but there are superior forms of fried potato.

Vote: Gnocchi
Not even close. Gnocchi is amazing and potato salad can rot.

exactly my reasoning. w/ the added bit of..i haven't really had gnocchi that often but everytime i do, it's with a pesto sauce and i'm not into that either.

It's a close one, but gnocchi advances. Tater Tots doesn't disappoint and moves on as well.

Next we have
(3) Baked Potatoes vs (14) Latkes
and
(6) Potatos Au Gratin vs (11) Potato Skins
!

Image
Baked potatoes are fluffy, warm, and can be customized by a variety of "fixins".

Image
Latkes are a traditional Jewish dish and they are basically a delightful potato pancake.

In the other matchup...
Image
Potatoes Au Gratin, also known as scalloped potatoes, are made with cheese and a layer of breadcrumbs on top.

Image
Potato skins are a classic appetizer, loaded with many of the same "fixins" as a baked potato but designed for snacking.

I'm only voting if necessary to break ties, but potatoes au gratin are by far my least favorite dish in the entire bracket.

VOTE: Latkes - pancakes are yummy. Again, if it has to be saved by the extras, I'm not counting it.
VOTE: Potato skins - because consistency is overrated. And in this case, I think both have to be saved by their extras.

Why did you seed them so high then?

Anyway I like them.

Vote: Latkes
Pretty easy choice. Baked potatoes are just a bit dull? I know you can have fixins, but to me I'm grading the potato itself, and really, I probably just want to eat the fixins and I'm using the potato as a conduit for them. Also latkes are just delightful

Vote: Au gratin
Extremely close for me because I love both. Au gratin is just an incredibly solid side dish, though, and skins are really just a better version of the baked potato because you have less of the potato to contend with and some of the fixins are baked in. They are really good though, I'm going to submit this now before I change my mind

Because I know a lot of other people like them for some reason. Bracketology isn't an exact science, but I still try to not just make things up based on my own biases. Bracketology isn't
economics

baked
baked is the ultimate potato

skins
basically a baked potato but crisper at the expense sustenance. Also au gratin sucks.

gratin. duh
