Okay, so au gratin and scalloped potatoes are incredibly different! Scalloped is much more of a white sauce or milk or cream based, they are NOT cheese based. The potatoes themselves are sliced much in the same way and they're both baked, but they are *not* the same. As one of the few things I make regularly, I have opinions on this!!!!!!!

are amazing tho.
I've had too many mediocre au gratin,
Skins
is where it's at.

Baked Potatos
Latkes always leave me feeling unsatisfied, Baked Potatoes do not.
Skins
I haven't had many skins but au gratin sucks and the picture looks nice.

I know how to cook a baked potato! it therefore gets my vote.
Au gratin has a nicer sounding name.

Its not as good as scalloped potatoes but why would I want just a potato skin? Potato skins go in the mashies
