Welcome to the TV business! You are the owner of a new television network.
All you have are three awful public access shows, a small amount of cash, and endless ambition.
Plus, it looks like you're not the only new TV network in town...

OverviewThe Networks sees players (up to 5) compete to build a TV network from the ground up and see which one can attract the most points (Viewers). The game lasts 5 rounds (Seasons). Each Season, players take turns placing Shows to their schedule, striking deals for new Stars and Ads, or claiming Network cards that grant them powers.

Some Shows require a Star, an Ad, or some combination of the two. Shows and Stars require money to acquire and run, while Ads offset some of the costs. Be careful though, if you run out of money, you risk your Viewers leaving your network!
Most of the money can be made when you get out of the round (Drop and Budget). The earlier you get out, the more money you make, but you also risk other players pulling ahead.

At the end of each Season, you'll score Viewers and money depending on how your network is performing. Shows age after each Season and they tend to decrease in viewership, so you want to make sure that your Shows stay fresh.

RulesIf you're familiar with the board game, the rules are exactly the same. You can skip to
Conduct
.
General information about the game (with the original rulebook and a video tutorial) can be found under
References
.

Spoiler: Set-up
Each player's network starts with three Shows, one Star, one Ad, and some money: the first player starts with $5m with each subsequent player starting with $2m more than the previous. The three Shows are randomly put on a time slot (they're equally bad), and the Star and Ad go to the Green Room, where they're kept until it's time to use them.
If there are only three players, all
Drama
-related cards won't be used (8 Shows and 4 Stars in all).

Each Season, new Shows, Stars, Ads, and Network cards are made available for drafting following this distribution. Whenever one is drafted, it does not get replaced until the next Season; these are everything the players have to work with for the entire Season.

Net cards
(S2 onwards)
34530
*split into 8 for Season 1, 16 for Seasons 2-3, and 16 more for Seasons 4-5

On their turn, each player has to do exactly one of these actions:
Note: this symbol ⭗ is sometimes used as a shorthand for Viewers.

Spoiler: Develop a Show
Developing a Show is the main source of Viewers. When a Show is placed, it's immediately put on air; it cannot be saved for later.

To develop a Show: pay the upfront cost, pick its time slot, and assign any required components from the Green Room. Once placed, its time slot is fixed.
Each time a Show is developed, an existing one from the same network is taken off air. The Show that used to occupy its slot is placed on Rerun, where it'll be scored one final time at the end of the Season before it's moved to the Archives. Multiple Shows can be placed on Rerun. The Stars and Ads that were attached to the old Show are placed back to the bottom of their respective decks (except Starter ones: they're discarded).
New Shows always start from its first Season. Game Season (rounds) and a Show's Season are different things.

When placing Stars or Ads, their conditions (if any) are also evaluated at that point. Meeting the conditions entails a higher Viewer count or income. These conditions are only evaluated the moment the Star or Ad is attached to the Show. If a previously failed condition is met later in the game (and vice versa), the cards do not switch sides.

Going over the Star/Ad limit is not allowed. For example, if a Show needs one Star and can optionally take an Ad, placing two Stars isn't allowed, and likewise with placing two Ads.
If a player doesn't have enough money or required components, they cannot develop the Show.

If you develop three or five Shows of the same Genre, you'll get a Genre Bonus. See the Genre Bonus section for more about this.

Spoiler: Sign a Star
Signing a Star moves one of the Stars from the board to their Green Room. It does not directly go to their currently-airing Shows. Stars in the Green Room do not affect a player's income or Viewer count. If they can't afford the upfront cost, they can't sign a Star. The Star's Season is tied with the Show's current Season.

Some Ads are
Promos
, which give a player Viewers in exchange of money. They are tied to the Show's current Season. Same as Ads, Promos in the Green Room do not affect a player's income or Viewers.

Spoiler: Take a Network card (Season 2 onwards)
Network cards give players special powers. They cost nothing to take. There's 2 of every Network card. They're one-time use (except the recurring ones on the advanced game) and are either used immediately, at certain times, or at the end of the game. After they've been used, they're returned to the bottom of the Network deck. If a card is not used immediately, it remains face-up so everyone knows which cards a player has. If a card would contradict a game rule, the card takes precedence.

Network card example
Advertising Push

Use immediately.

Get ⭗3, or ⭗10 for $5m.

Spoiler: Attach a Star/Ad to an existing Show
This action moves one Star or one Ad from the Green Room to a Show currently airing. If the Show has room, it can directly be attached, but if not, it has to replace one of the existing Stars or Ads. The old Star/Ad goes to the bottom of their respective decks. The new Star/Ad will tie its Season with the Show's current Season.

Any replacement is allowed as long as the resulting composition is valid for the Show they're on. For example, consider a Show that must have a Star and can optionally hold a Star or an Ad (shown as
Star
+ Any
). If it has a Star and an Ad attached, the Ad can be replaced with a Star or an Ad, but the Star can only be replaced with another Star.

If the Star/Ad has any conditions, evaluate them now. Same as with attaching while developing a Show, if a previously failed condition is met later in the game (and vice versa), the cards do not switch sides.

Spoiler: Drop and Budget
When a player Drops and Budgets, they cash out and end their Season. They can choose between money or Viewers; the amount of which depends on when they got out and which Season the game is currently in. The values are shown in the table below. After a player Drops and Budgets, they can no longer take actions until the end of the Season.

When every player but one has got out, the last remaining player can do as many actions as they wish before getting out. Once they Drop and Budget, the Season ends.

When a player accumulates 3 or 5 Shows of a single Genre across their library of Shows (On-Airs, Reruns, and Archives), they'll receive a Genre Bonus:

Spoiler: Genre Bonus
First, the player immediately scores 5 Viewers.

Then, if it's their
third
Show, they get a choice between these two options:
  • Draw 3 Stars from the deck. Keep 1 for free, and return the other 2 to the bottom of the deck.
  • Draw 3 Ads from the deck. Keep 1 without getting its landing bonus, but get the landing bonus from the other 2 before returning them to the bottom of the deck.
For their
fifth
Show, they can choose between one of the above two options, or a third option:
  • Draw 3 Network cards from the deck. Keep 1, and return the other 2 to the bottom of the deck. If the chosen card is to be used immediately, do so and return it to the bottom of the deck.
Additionally with their
fifth
Show, after choosing from the three options, they may convert money to Viewers in a ratio of $4m to 3 Viewers.

At the end of each Season, the following actions are performed:

Spoiler: End-of-Season actions
First,
evaluate the income and upkeep
of each player.
Some Shows and Stars require the player to pay upkeep. Some Ads offset the cost, providing income.
Each player will get money equal to their income minus their upkeep. If the difference is positive, they gain money. If it's negative, they lose money.
If a player doesn't have enough money to pay the difference, they don't pay with money, they'll pay
entirely
with Viewers. Viewers can't ever go below 0.

Second,
score Viewers
from on-air Shows and Reruns.
These include the viewers from attached Stars and Ads, which are tied to the Show's current Season. Take note of the time slot if the Show is in its first Season. Shows on Rerun are only scored on their Rerun values.

Third,
age all on-air Shows
.
If a Show is already on its right-most value, keep it there.

Lastly,
set-up the next Season
:
  • All shows on Rerun are moved to Archives. Their Genres still count for the purposes of the Genre Bonus.
  • Any Shows, Stars, Ads, and Network cards that are left on the board are discarded.
  • New cards are drawn. The distribution of which are shown in the
    Set-up
section at the top of the Rules.
  • A new turn order is determined. On the next Season, players will pick in reverse Viewer order, least to most. If there's a tie, the one who Dropped and Budgeted earlier gets priority.

Once the 5th Season has been scored, there are a few final adjustments before the game is over:

Spoiler: End-of-game actions
Every Show that's on air is scored one more time for Viewers. They will have aged after Season 5 is scored.
Then, everyone gets 1 Viewer for every Star they have in their respective Green Rooms.
Finally, any end-of-game Network cards are scored at this point.

The player with the most Viewers wins. Ties are broken by the amount of money. If those are tied, it's a joint victory.

ConductAll site rules apply. Please be courteous to your fellow players.

Spoiler: Pre-game
  • To join, simply post in the thread. Optionally, you can tell me what you'd name your TV network and I'll put that in.
  • Once 3 players are in, I'll set a 48 hour countdown for the 4th and 5th players to join. The game will start after the timer runs out or the 5th player joins, whichever comes first.
  • You cannot join the game after it's started, but you can sign in for the next game. I might also PM you if the game needs replacements.
  • If you signed in from the previous game, you'll have until the start of the next game to re-confirm it.
  • Once all players are in, I'll randomise the turn order and assign everyone with their starting cards.

Spoiler: Game-wide rules
  • Turns are signalled with your name on the title of the thread and a post declaring that it's your turn.
  • If you see that the player before you has gone, you may go before indicated. Please be careful not to pick a card that the previous player has claimed.
  • If at any time you need to refer to the current game state, you can find it on the first post.
  • All information is open in this game except for what's in the decks.
  • Editing your turn is allowed up until the point in which I updated the thread with your turn, then it's locked. As a rule of thumb, you'll always have at least 15 minutes from when you posted to change your mind.
  • While you're allowed to ask for advice to anyone on the thread, no one is required to oblige. Ultimately, keep in mind that no one can pick for you, and your decisions are yours and yours alone.

Spoiler: Things to note when picking an action
  • If you choose to develop a Show, make sure you have enough money to pay all upfront costs, pick a time slot, and attach any necessary Stars or Ads from your Green Room (
    not
from the board!) alongside it. Any optional Stars/Ads can be assigned at the same time, or later with the Attach action.
  • If you choose to sign a Star, make sure you have enough money to pay the upfront cost.
  • Mind your income and upkeep. Remember, if you can't pay the difference with your money, you'll have to pay entirely in Viewers!
  • If your newly developed Show would grant you a Genre Bonus, specify whether you'd like a Star or an Ad. In the case of 5 Shows, specify whether you'd like a Star, an Ad, or a Network card. I'll PM you with your selection.
  • If you choose to attach a Star or an Ad to a Show that is full, mention the Star or Ad that you'd like to replace out.
  • If you choose a card that tells you to make a choice, include the choice when you pick it.
  • If you choose to Drop and Budget after Season 1, mention if you'd like money or Viewers. You're done for the Season.
  • If you didn't include a choice for the above four points, I'll mention it and you'll have until the timer is up to pick an option. If there's less than 24 hours on the timer, I'll amend it to 24 hours, but only once. When the timer runs out without a decision, I'll choose the first available choice for you.

Spoiler: Error resolution
  • If your turn is ambiguous, I'll post my best interpretation of your turn, and you'll have until the timer is up for you to either confirm or clarify what you mean. If there's less than 24 hours on the timer, I'll amend it to 24 hours, but only once. When the timer runs out, I'll assume compliance.
  • If your turn is invalid (such as attaching a Star to a Show with no Star slots), I'll post about the error and you can correct it. If there's less than 24 hours on the timer, I'll amend it to 24 hours, but only once.
When the timer runs out, depending on the error, I'll make the following decisions in order:
    • If you don't have enough money to take the Show, I'll take the first action that you can do in this order: A > B > C > D > E > F. Swap A and B around if it's a Star that you can't afford.
    • If you play a Network card at the wrong time or circumstance, it will not be played.
    • If you don't respond when asked about Genre Bonuses, I'll assume that you'll take the top-most Star on its deck, and that you'd decline the $4m to ⭗3 conversion if applicable.
    • If you assign too many Stars/Ads to a Show when developing it, I'll only consider the ones that are mentioned first.
    • If the above operation leaves you with not enough Stars or Ads, or if you assigned too few to begin with, I'll see if you have the necessary Stars/Ads in your Green Room. Oldest card takes priority. Failing that, the Show's development is cancelled and I'll take the first action that you can do in this order: A > B > C > D > E > F.
    • If, when you attach a Star or an Ad, it would leave the Show's overall attachments in an invalid state, I'll try to attach the Star or Ad to another Show, prioritising the earliest one. Failing that, I'll cancel the action and take the first action that you can do in this order: E > A > B > C > D > F.
    • If an error occurs outside of this list, I'll use my best judgment to resolve the issue.
The meaning of each letter:
  1. Outgoing Show
: From the Shows you're airing, discard the one that has the lowest Viewer count for this Season and the next, combined. Take the attached Stars and Ads to account.
    Incoming Show
: Consider the Shows on the board that you can afford and for which you have the necessary Stars and Ads. From those, pick the Show that has the highest Viewer count for the first 2 Seasons combined, taking their preferred time slot into account, but not the extra viewers brought by Stars. Ties are broken by cheapest upfront cost and order of appearance if necessary.
    Placement
: Place the Show in the now vacant time slot with the required Stars/Ads. Priority given to the oldest Star/Ad in your Green Room that fulfils a condition, then those without a condition, then those that fail a condition.
    Other notes
: If you've changed a Show in a time slot within this Season, do not change it. If you would qualify for a Genre Bonus, compare the number of Stars and Ads in your Green Room and pick the one that you have fewer of, prioritising Stars over Ads on ties. Pick the Star or Ad following the B or C procedure.
  2. Evaluate the conditions (if any) of each Star that you can afford against the Shows that still have room (treat conditions as unmet if there's no room anywhere), and take the one that gives the highest number of Viewers for the Show's Season and the next, combined. Ties are broken by cheapest upfront cost and order of appearance if necessary.
  3. Evaluate the conditions (if any) of each Ad against the Shows that still have room (treat conditions as unmet if there's no room anywhere) and take the Ad that gives you the highest income. Ties are broken by highest landing bonus and order of appearance if necessary.
  4. Take the left-most Network card. If asked to make a choice, pick the first available choice. Cards whose instructions start with "Use when" will not be played.
  5. Consider the earliest Show on-air that still has room for a Star or an Ad. Priority goes Promos > Stars > Ads. All ties are broken by whichever has been in the Green Room the longest. If none of your Shows have room, skip this one.
    • Promos
: attach the one that you can pay and that gives the highest number of Viewers for this Show's Season and the next, combined. If you can't pay, pass.
    • Stars
: evaluate the conditions (if any) for the Stars in your Green Room, and attach the one that gives the most amount of Viewers for this Show's Season and the next, combined.
    • Ads
: evaluate the conditions (if any) for the Ads in your Green Room, and attach the one that gives the highest income.
  6. Drop and Budget. Take the money, except in Season 5, where you take Viewers instead.

Spoiler: Example turns
Here are a few turn examples. Colours and bold texts are given as emphasis; these are optional. You may post variations of these as long as I can understand what you're going for. These also include what info you should include for the actions.
A wants to develop a Show. A wrote:Place
The Cubicle
at 8pm. Attach the
Late Night Talk Show Host
and an Ad for
Professional Typing Consultants
.
B also wants to develop a Show, but B notices that they would qualify for a Genre Bonus. B wrote:Place
Paisley is the New Burnt Umber
at 9pm with the
Longtime Star
. For my Genre Bonus, I'd like a
Network card
.
C wants to attach a Star to an existing Show, and there's room. C wrote:Slot the
Reality TV Judge
to the 10pm show.
D wants to attach an Ad to an existing Show, but there's no room, so D would like to get rid of a Star. D wrote:Replace the
Satirical News Anchor
with
Perfect Ponchos
.
E wants to Drop and Budget. E wrote:I'm out.
Drop and Budget
, take the money.

Spoiler: Deadlines
  • For the first two go-arounds (Episodes) of each Season, you will have
    48 hours
to choose an action from when I update the thread with the board.
  • After the first two, this deadline is reduced to
    24 hours
. Cards are not refilled after every turn, only after every Season. As each Season progresses, there would be fewer options to deliberate.
  • If you're eligible for a Genre Bonus, it will have to be resolved before you end your turn.
    • At the same time as you developing your eligible Show, you should state your choice. If it's a 3-Show Bonus, choose either a Star or an Ad. If it's a 5-Show Bonus, you can instead choose a Network card.
If you haven't indicated the option, I'll ask you in the thread, amending the timer to 24 hours. If this timer runs out without an answer, you'll default to the top Star of its deck.
    • After you've indicated your reward, I'll send you a PM with your three options. Your timer will be amended to 24 hours if it hasn't been amended in the same turn. If this timer runs out without an answer, you'll default to whatever is listed first.
    • Once you've chosen the type of reward for the Genre Bonus, you can't retroactively make changes to your current turn.
    • If you choose a Network card, it's possible that you'll have to make a choice right away. I'll indicate such in the PM.
    • If it's the 5-Show Genre Bonus, the $4m to ⭗3 conversion will also be offered in the PM. If no response is indicated regarding this, I'll assume that you don't want to convert.
  • When there's only one player remaining in the Season, they'll have 6 hours for every card remaining on the board or 24 hours, whichever is longer, to wrap up the Season. At the end of this time window, the player will Drop and Budget if they haven't already done so. There will be no prods at this period.
  • At the end of each Season, if anyone has a Network card that can be used at that time, I'll ask in the thread if they would like to use it. After 24 hours with no response, it is assumed that the player will not use it this Season. For this occasion only, the 24 hour limit is rigid and all decisions must be made before then, because it may impact scoring.
  • All turns must end no longer than the length of the normal deadline + 48 hours (i.e.: 96 hours for the first 2 Episodes and 72 hours from Episode 3 onwards). This is a hard limit that overrides any time extensions, except for circumstances outside of everyone's control (e.g.: site outage).

Spoiler: V/LA
  • If anyone would like to declare V/LA, tell me in the thread, via PM, or by showing a banner. If you have an end date, tell me so (whole number of days only), otherwise I'll treat it as a 3-day V/LA.
  • You're limited to 21 days of V/LA for the entire game. It's available for you to use, and I'll grant it for any reason, but take care to only use it when you need it as to not excessively delay the game.
  • V/LAs will only apply on your next turn at the earliest. It cannot be used to extend your timer this turn.
  • V/LAs give you 24 extra hours, split into 12 hours before and 12 hours after the deadline. This means you'll have 60/36 hours for your regular turn instead of 48/24, and when your deadline passes, you'll have 36 hours instead of 24 to choose an action. Missing deadlines under V/LA do not count as prods.
  • At the end of the 36-hour period with no action chosen, you will be automatically played, but you will not be replaced by default. However, it's possible for you to time out while you're in V/LA (see the
    next
    section).
  • Timer amends stay at 24 hours even on V/LA. Turns must still end 96/72 hours after the start of your turn.
  • If you feel like you might be away for an extended amount of time, you might want to replace out. See the
    Replacements
    section for more details.

Spoiler: Activity requirements: the time bank
  • Each player is allotted 100 hours of extra time that will only decrease when you miss deadlines.
  • Meeting a deadline adds 4 hours to the bank. Meeting a deadline while in V/LA adds 1 hour to the bank. The bank is capped at 168 hours (1 week).
  • If you miss a deadline, you will be prodded and will have 24 hours to submit your turn. Your timer starts counting down at that moment and stops when you submit a turn.
  • Your timer will count down n times as fast for your n-th prod.
Missing a prod immediately triggers the replacement sequence. The bank allows at least 3 prods, could be more if you're quick on answering the calls and meet more deadlines.
  • If you miss a deadline while in V/LA, the timer will count down at that moment and stops when you submit a turn. The speed of which it ticks down is the same as if you're prodded at that moment, so if you completely miss your turn, you'll lose 36 hours × (number of prods + 1). However, missing a deadline while in V/LA doesn't count as a prod. Without prods, the bank allows at least 9 days of V/LA, but it's very possible for it to last the full 21 days.
  • If you manage to fill the time bank completely, I'll halve your prod count, rounded down. This is only valid the first time you reached a full bank with prods. If you don't have prods while reaching a full bank, went to get a prod, then fill it again, you'll be eligible; but getting another prod and filling it again won't grant it.
  • If you're given time amends (ambiguous turn / error / Genre Bonus) while your timer is counting down, I'll stop the timer to give you a chance to complete your turn.
  • If your time bank runs out, the replacement sequence is triggered (see the next section).
  • If a prod or a V/LA would exhaust the timer, you'll still be allowed the full duration for that turn only, immediately followed by the replacement sequence.

Spoiler: Replacements and automatic playing
If your
time bank
runs out or you miss a prod, I'll PM you asking if you still want to continue playing, during which you'll have 48 hours to answer. While I'm waiting for your answer, your turn will be automatically played.
  • If you want to continue or if it's Season 5, you'll be allowed to stay, but without a time bank, which means that no prods or V/LA requests will be granted. Run out of time and your turn will be automatically played. If you're currently on V/LA when your time runs out, you'll re-enter the game without the V/LA extension.
  • If you don't want to continue or I receive no response in 48 hours, I'll search for a replacement with the slot being automatically played in the meantime. If a replacement is found, they'll have (110 − 10n) hours in their time bank, where n is the current Season number. If the slot remains empty at the start of Season 5, no replacement will occur.
  • While a player is being automatically played, I'll take the first action that they can do in this order: D > C > B > A > E > F (see the
    Error resolution
    section above for meanings). Then, move the first letter to 2nd last for the next turn (so after one turn it'll be C > B > A > E > D > F, after two turns it'll be B > A > E > D > C > F and so on). Reset to D > C > B > A > E > F when a replacement is found or the player chooses on time. If the player has spent $10m while in this state, immediately Drop and Budget.
  • The slot that is being automatically played will wait 24 hours before playing for its first 3 turns. Afterwards, if no replacement is found by then, it'll resolve immediately after the previous player has finished their turn.
Voluntary replace-outs are allowed. If you'd like to replace out, please post in the thread or notify me via PM. I'll search for a replacement and play following the actions above.

If you have any questions or issues, don't hesitate to ask in the thread or via PM. Let's have a good session!

Spoiler: Game info
  • The Networks is a board game by Gil Hova and published by Formal Ferret Games.
  • The rules follow the basic version of the game with no advanced or interactive Network cards.
    • However,
if all of the players have played this game before and would like to try an advanced variant (needs 75% approval), I'll put in the advanced Network cards and the On the Air expansion (additional cards, no gameplay change), and Network cards as a whole would be available starting from Season 1.
  • The rulebook is accessible here (58MB). If there are any inconsistencies between this ruleset and the rulebook, the latter prevails unless specifically stated otherwise.
  • If you prefer to watch a video (7 minutes), here's a rundown from Geek and Sundry.

These are lifted from the Card Almanac section of the rulebook with minor adjustments. Some that are on the Almanac aren't listed below because I've altered the card description to include the clarification. Some cards have been changed after the rulebook is made available; the following should have all the updated clarifications.

Spoiler: Clarifications — Basic
General
  • The Starter Shows do not specify any Star/Ad requirements. This does mean that you can't attach any Stars or Ads to them.
  • Shows with no Genre can't be used with any Genre-related cards.
  • Unless specified otherwise, discarding any card except Show cards returns them to the bottom of their respective decks. This means that they can re-appear later in the game.
  • "Saving" a Star or an Ad means returning them to the Green Room upon the Show's cancellation instead of returning them to the bottom of their respective decks.
  • If a Star or Ad has the "has unused Xs" condition (with Xs being either Stars or Ads), you fulfil the condition if, after you finish attaching all the Xs to the Show, there's at least one X remaining in your Green Room.
Stars
  • Always Dies in Everything
: When attaching this Star to a Show, it's up to you which side (✓ or ✕) you'd like to apply.
  • Charity Infomercial Mainstay
: If you tie for the lead, you are considered to be in the lead.
  • Fierce Drag Queen / Reality Show Vote Collector
: These Stars would fill the Ad slot in a Reality Show. If they are put in a Show of any other Genre, they fill a Star slot as usual.
  • Popular but Unpredictable Legend
: You fulfil the condition if you attach the Star on Season 2 or 4 of the game, not of the Show the Star is in.
₦etwork cards
  • Ad Acquisition
: Collect the landing bonus for the Ad that you didn't pick, then move it to the bottom of the Ad deck.
  • Big Game
: Only consider income from Ads. Do not subtract upkeep from Shows and Stars when scoring this card.
  • Director
: Can be used at any moment. Using this card doesn't count as an action.
  • Good Branding
    :
    This card is altered.
It's usually 2 Viewers per Show in a Genre of your choice, but since everyone would just pick the Genre they have the most Shows on, I decided to simplify the card to mention that instead.
  • Spinoff
: You may put the saved Stars on the Show that replaced the Show they were just on.
  • Split Season
: Only score Viewers from that time slot. Do not calculate income or upkeep.
  • Sweeps Week
: Using this card doesn't count as an action. If you choose to instead draw Network cards, the one that's not chosen goes to the bottom of the Network deck.

Spoiler: Clarifications — Advanced + On the Air
Image
Shows
  • Image
    Angry as Heck
: Doubling is only allowed before the endgame scoring. Attached Stars will be discarded even when they would normally be moved elsewhere (e.g.: Gray Fox, Rerun Guy).
If either Fierce Drag Queen or Reality Show Vote Collector were to star on this Show, they would fill the Ad slot first before the Star slot.
  • Image
    Car Chases Without Context
: Attached Stars and Ads also get moved when you move the Show. Do not switch sides, even if their conditions would be fulfilled or vice versa.
  • Image
    Eternal Zest
: This Show has no preferred time slot. As such, any Ads whose condition is met by having the Show be on its preferred time slot would fail the condition if attached to this Show.
  • Image
    National Rain Delay League
: If there are Promos attached, you'll also get the Promo's Viewers as normal, in addition to the card's effect.
  • Image
    Plaster Piece Theater
: The moment you attach the second Star to this Show, I'll PM you the top of the Star deck and you can choose whether or not to attach it, free of charge. The condition (if any) is evaluated like normal. Replacing this third Star can only be done with the Stars you have in your Green Room. If you choose not to attach the one from the top of the deck, you can add a third Star later on, but it must be from your Green Room.
  • Image
    Truly Annoying Show
: Stars that fail their conditions count as needing no upkeep. The score of ⭗7 replaces whatever their combined total may be.
Stars
  • Bollywood Star
: You fulfil the condition if, after you finish using up all the Network cards you wish, you still have at least two Network cards in your possession. (
This is altered from the rulebook!
Listed as Seductive Foreign Star in the rulebook)
  • Gray Fox
: The first time you attach this Star, it follows the ✕ side. If it keeps being on the ✕ side when you remove the Star, instead of discarding, it goes back to your Green Room. The second time you attach the Star, it follows the ✓ side. Removing it at this point would return it to the bottom of the Star deck like normal.
  • Industry Veteran
: You can choose to not pay for the Star by following its ✕ side.
  • Product Placement Master
: You don't get the landing bonus for the Ad you drew.
  • Rerun Guy
: When the Show this Star is on is cancelled, the Rerun Guy also moves to the Rerun area and scored as a Rerun at the end of the Season. Counts as a Rerun for the purposes of Daytime Soaps and Syndication.
  • Versatile Actor
: The Show this Star is on will change its Genre to one of your choice. You can only pay the $3m when developing a Show, and only once per turn. If the Show is cancelled, it reverts to its original Genre and stays that way for the rest of the game.
HOUSE RULE FOR THIS THREAD: You're limited to one 3-Show and one 5-Show Bonus per Genre. Once you've obtained a Bonus, you can't regain it by changing a Show's Genre.
₦etwork cards
  • Agency
: You draw the cards (Stars, Ads, or Network cards) to the board, not to your area. You can draw one at the time if you so choose, then decide if you want to draw more. You can draw the cards even when there's none of them left on the board.
  • Awards Show
: Count all the Stars and Ads across your Shows and your Green Room. Scoring is done per set, so for example: 3 Stars and 2 Ads count as 2 sets.
  • Clip Show
: Can only be used for the Network cards whose directions start with "Use when". The card that was saved can't be used on the same turn; you'll have to wait until your next turn at the earliest.
  • Daytime Soaps
: You can't keep the same Rerun two Seasons in a row. The Show still counts towards Genre Bonuses.
  • Exclusive Rights
: When you take this card, immediately reserve a Show from the board. If you don't want any Show on the board or if there's none left, you can spend an action in the future to reserve a Show. Regardless of method, you'll then spend another action to develop the Show and discard this card. While the Show is being reserved, it doesn't count towards Genre Bonuses.
If you use Clip Show to save this card, you still have to spend an action to reserve another Show, then a second action to develop it.
  • Market Research
: When you play this card, your requirements for getting a Genre Bonus is lowered by one: 2 Shows for a 3-Show Bonus and 4 Shows for a 5-Show Bonus. You must be able to fulfil the requirement in the same turn, else it won't count. Regardless, the next time you would get a Genre Bonus in any fashion, it is skipped. (
This is altered from the rulebook!
    )
  • Network Shakeup
: You can move around any number of Stars and Ads. The resulting arrangements must still be valid for their respective Shows. Do not switch sides, even if their conditions would be fulfilled or vice versa.
If you've used All-Star Cast on a Show, that Show would still be allowed to have its extra capacity.
  • Pre-empted Time Slot
: If you wish to immediately Drop and Budget as you're taking this card, you may do so.
  • Reboot
: Since you're picking from the Archives, you only get Viewers from the chosen Show, with no Stars or Promos. If you choose its first Season, score the higher value.
  • Star Sponsor
: This doesn't reduce the required total, just that they can be used interchangeably.

V/LA announcementI'm going to be V/LA from
7 May 00:00 to 9 May 23:59
, both UTC. During this time, all timers will be stopped.

I may or may not be able to update the game in this time period, and the V/LA end date could be moved forwards or backwards by at most a day. Feel free to take your turn if you see the player before you has gone, and I'll resolve your turns when I have time or after my V/LA is over. Turns made in this time would still get the +4 hours as usual.

At the end of the period, I'll PM everyone to notify that the game is back up. I'll also add 24 hours to everyone's first deadlines and 12 hours to everyone's time bank to compensate.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for understanding!

Syndication rewordingI noticed that the wording for Syndication can be misleading, so I went ahead and rewrote the card for clarity:

Current wording
Updated wording
Syndication

Use when scoring Reruns.

Score an additional ⭗4
for every show on Rerun.
Syndication

Use when scoring Reruns.

Score an additional ⭗4
for each of your Reruns.

V/LA extensionHi everyone, unfortunately I underestimated how long the break is going to take, so I'm pushing the V/LA end date one day back. The new end date is
10 May 23:59 UTC
. There should be no more pushbacks after this one. Thank you for understanding!

Sign-ups open for Game 1!
Up to 5 players can join. Once 3 players have joined, I'll start a 48-hour timer for two more players to join.
Optionally, you can name your TV network. The names that come with the board game are all 3 characters long, but of course yours can be as long or short as you like.

Do take some time prior to the game to familiarise yourself with the rules! There's a video by Geek and Sundry if anyone prefers watching over reading. (Ignore the bit about Interactive cards — that part is wrong, Interactive cards are for 3+ players, and we're not using them anyway.) Feel free to ask questions if you don't understand part of the rules.

Also, if you've played Villagers before, the activity requirements have been revamped to allow the game to proceed in a steady pace. Please check them, but in short:
  • 48 hours for your first 2 turns of each Season, then 24 hours after that.
  • Each of you is given a time bank with 100 hours to start. It refills when you meet deadlines and ticks away only when you miss deadlines. The more prods you get, the faster the timer ticks down. Running out of time in your bank means either you'll be replaced or be allowed to continue but without prods or V/LA.
  • If you're in V/LA, you'll get 12 extra hours before and after the deadline. You're limited to 21 days of V/LA. Running out of time in your bank and deciding to stay in the game means you lose whatever V/LA privileges you have now.

Welcome Sirius9121!

Last chance to get in, the game begins in
(expired on 2021-04-21 07:41:00)
!

I might be a bit late (by an hour or two) in starting the game depending on if I'm already up at that time. If it shows that the timer has expired but I haven't updated the thread, you can still join!

Time's up! Let's start the game. Rolling for turn order.
I'll roll a d500 for Farren, Felissan, StrangerCoug, and Sirius9121:

Original Roll String: 4d500
4 500-Sided Dice: (455, 177, 69, 13) = 714

And based on the starting roll, here's the turn order for this Season! Everyone will start with different amounts of money depending on how early or late you're starting.

(Farren doesn't have a short name for his network, so I'm assigning him TST. Let me know if you want this changed!)

For the first two Episodes, you'll have 48 hours to choose an action. Let's reveal the selections for this first Season:

I'll develop An Hour of Shouting for the 9PM slot, with the Hipster Gaming Consoles ad.

"Also, the me in your signature just made the me in this thread lose the game and I'm not sure how to feel about this."

"You've made me make myself lose the game so many times that I feel like it's an entirely new game I'm losing"

An Hour of Shouting

The Show costs $2m to develop, but thanks to the Ad, it'll generate $1m per Season. And because it's on its preferred time slot, it'll score extra Viewers!
This Show will replace the ever musical
You Too Can Play the Recorder!
, which is relegated to Rerun for the rest of the Season.

That's the first Show gone, but six remain:

Good evening, and welcome to Test Pattern Network.

Here at TPN, we pride ourselves on our predictability. When you tune in, you can expect to know exactly what's going to happen. No surprises, no gimmicks - just good, clean family entertainment. That's our promise to you.

With that said, we've been getting viewer complaints about
Litter Training Weekly
. Some of the cats weren't quite picking up the ins and outs of the litter box, and no one could figure out which ones! We even had one host start showing people how to spread garbage around! So we're giving them the ax and sending the host off to sell kitty litter. But you can still enjoy the show on re-runs - and remember, when you're watching a re-run, you know exactly what's going to happen.

With the parting of an old show comes the dawn of a new show. Welcome, everyone, to
Awesome Industrial Accidents!
Where you know exactly what happens when someone forgets to drop the safety guard on the bandsaw! It'll be airing daily at
9:00 PM
.

(This show is sponsored by
Blast Radius Pure Sugar Cereal
. There's an explosion of flavor in every bite, just like there's always an explosion of awesome every time someone ignores a 'No Smoking' sign next to the cabinet where the flammables are stored!)
