here's the card for
ermine rainfall
:

simpleconfusing

and the clue that your psychic, lilith2013, provided is:
PhD-level math

your team has (expired on 2021-06-28 16:00:00) to guess where the target is. it’s now up to you to discuss and determine where
PhD-level math
is on the spectrum from 0 to 100. 0 represents “simple” and 100 represents “confusing".

Farren
is your team’s current representative. remember to provide your final answer in this format:
guess: x
where x is between 0 and 100.

anything below something like 75 is likely to be out

90 may be a bit high up i guess?

if you just wanna score points maybe 85 is a solid guess

I'm trying to think of it in terms of percentages. Like, grab a thousand people off the street. Heck, make it a thousand people at a university. How many of them would take a look at PhD-level math and not think it was confusing?

At least from an academic standpoint, "PhD level" is as tough as it gets? Isn't that the level where you can't just regurgitate stuff that's already known; you have to go find new truths for yourself? From one perspective, that could be seen as "trying to understand something that no one has demonstrated understanding of yet?"

That could hold true for just about any PhD-level subject, and she chose math specifically, which is something that a lot of people find confusing to start with.

So yeah, I'm leaning in the 90s. I don't know that I'd be willing to go to a 96, but I'm not writing it off yet either.

I’m pretty sure that astro physics is mostly just phd level math

And idk icon, I think that women, cats, and playing mafia are all simpler than phd level math :P

I’d have accepted “the meaning of life” or “the nuances of human emotion” for things that should be 100 tho

I feel like 92 would be solid, I would be really surprised if it’s below 90 and honestly there’s such few things more complex I feel like there’s a good chance going for something that would just hit the 100 range (96, 97, 98, 99, 100) very likely also hits the 4 if it’s in the low 90s

Creating a sentient AI, maybe? That strikes me as a 100-level task.

I think I want to lock in 90 as a guess. It's high enough that it should score us something, while not being a total gimme for the opponents.

I’m assuming we’re basing the scale on really existing or plausible things, if we think lili might be cluing with scifi in mind then I’d endorse a bit lower, yeah, like maybe 85 even

I can roll with 90 tho, assuming she was thinking of really existing disciplines on the scale, in which case I think Icon is down from his post earlier so let’s guess and keep it rolling

ermine rainfall
has locked in
90
.
eight and a xalxe
has (expired on 2021-06-26 23:40:00) to lock in a left/right guess.

simpleconfusing

clue:
PhD-level math

0 represents “simple” and 100 represents “confusing". please place your guess according to whether you think "
PhD-level math
" is closer to 0 or closer to 100 than 90.

it has just become our clue; the other team guessed 90 and we have to decide if we think the number that was clued for is more likely to be to the right (91-100) or the left (1-89) of 90

so if we guess right that means we think the number is 93+ because 90 is still in the 4 point range of 92

so is it 93-98 or <88 hm

if trying to clue for 93+ is there something more specifically confusing to clue or would phd-level maths be full meter
In post 40, Farren wrote:That could hold true for just about any PhD-level subject, and she chose math specifically,
this is interesting in that a phd-level understanding of mathematics is more common and probably 'simpler' than a phd-level understanding of most of the applied mathematics, but when applied to a 0-100 simple-confusing scale is that difference even more than a point or two at most? like phd-level maths is x and phd-level physics and astronomy is x+1 so i do not think considering other phd fields is our best way to determine distance from 100
