A sound fills the air, coming from outside. Merrick seems overly excited. He is getting all giddy, and flustered. Sarah seems indifferent and sits at her desk doing some kind of paperwork. And that's when someone sees the first one.
A meteor is lightly visible through the glass window, looking up toward the sky. And Merrick runs outside, almost skipping. He yells, "come on everyone. This is going to be amazing".

And he wasn't wrong.

As everyone starts to filter outside onto the roadway, they look upward and see blue streaks across the sky coming from the west. This is not like anything anyone has seen before. The sheer number of meteors is amazing, and they are leaving blue streaks as they tear through, and presumably burn up through, the sky. But before anyone can grow tired of the spectacle, Merrick points the relatively empty east and says 'Watch, you ain't seen nothing yet'

And he wasn't wrong.

Red streaking meteors start coming in the opposite direction. The sky is lit up by brilliant red and blue streaks forming at speed in opposite directions to each other. Each disappearing only to be replaced by two more. There are just so many. But before anyone can grow tired of the spectacle, Merrick just says "The best is yet to come"

And he wasn't wrong.

A blue streak formed and trailed through the sky. Buried in the sheer number of meteors you would have no reason to think this one was special, but coming straight at it was another meteor. A red one. And the red and the blue collided. As they did so, they created a spectacle to behold. For momentarily there was a purple sphere in the sky. The sphere hovered for a few seconds, and then simply faded away to nothing as though it never was.

Overall there were about 12 collisions, each resulting in the same effect.

And gradually the number of blue meteors reduced away, though the red ones continued for a while. The clue that perhaps this amazing event was over was that Merrick started to chat to Sarah (who had eventually wandered out). All up it had taken about twenty minutes or so. No one here would forget this for the rest of their lives.

Sarah was the first to return to the eatery

I went to the travel agency. Still haven't managed to get down to security. Tickets are too expensive.
