You can replace into a game too just PM the game mod that posted the request (click the PM button to the left there and it quotes the whole thing), also don't forget to /out if you replace in.

Best thing to do is subscribe to the thread (click the subscribe topic link at the bottom there), and that will send you an email every time someone posts when you aren't online. When the queue pops and you get into a game, the mod that your game was assigned to will send out Role PMs (which you should get an email notification of), before it starts, he or she will also PM you when the game actually starts and of transitions between day and night phases. Lastly, the quickest way into a game is to watch the thread for replacement requests (which is one reason why subscribing is good), then if you see a replacement request, click the PM button right under their avatar, that generates a quote of the post in PM format that you can respond to and say whatever you need to. For example, if you look back at age 18 in this thread you can see what replacement requests by various mods look like.
As to getting email notifications, check the board preference settings in your profile.
- when I first thought I qualified I did not, the games you were in that count towards SE status need to go all the way to game over. Not just you dead and no longer in game.
