Letting you know right now that I'm going to reject Except When He Does. The phrase just isn't unique to him.

I know it's not in good taste to provide input on your own title, but come on.

The origin of this title spawned from the fact that I had never had a single drink of alcohol, then showed up at the (first) Reckoning. Nervous and wanting to be polite, when Reck/Nuwen mentioned there was communal alcohol, I turned it down, stating "I don't drink". Due to peer pressure and curiosity, I eventually helped myself to said alcohol and played a few rounds of drinking games. Someone noticed I was wastedface (MoS?) and said, "I thought you said you didn't drink," to which I enthusiastically responded "Except when I do!"

It became a memorable part of the meet, leading into things such as The Stair Incident. I've brought it up in games, LoL when I played with scummers, in real life and so on, and it still gets referenced

three years later

, albeit mostly from the Commune. If my memory serves, during the NC Oman-meet, even Oman said 'except when you do?' in response to something I said. Oman, a user whose only interaction with him I had prior to meeting him (as far as I can recall) was him

Now, I can think of other titles that probably fit me better if they were in good taste to present myself. But to say that this title isn't 'unique' enough actually really annoys me. Is it a unique phrase in itself? Maybe not. Do I say it that often on the forums? Not much anymore - IIRC, Buttons said something like "I'd give him the title if he said it more", but I'm not going to spam the phrase everywhere just to get a damn title. I don't like forced titles like that.

But if you're going to tell me that a fairly memorable mafiascum meet event from three years ago, still referenced by people that weren't even there, doesn't deserve a title because of 'uniqueness' issues, then support a title for rage-mashing a keyboard, I'm going to voice my opinion even if it's not 'polite' to do so.

All that aside, I think Anti deserves a better title. I don't think it fits him well enough despite the quotes in-thread. He deserves something better, not that I have other suggestions.

TBH I agree with Pie/Esurio here... if the Pie thing is struck down because OTHER PEOPLE USE THAT PHRASE TOO! then the Anti one should be as well.

People still reference the Pie thing three years later. If a phrase has to be unique to be considered, then let's take a look at how many titles were already given out that are completely not unique in any way shape or form. And let's look at the fact that Anti's title is basically YOU DO A THING THAT OTHER PEOPLE DO ALL THE TIME

of MafiaScum, perhaps the trend of smashing the letters randomly on the keyboard is unique to Antihero. (Though I'd sort of contest that.)

By the same token, within the

of MafiaScum, the phrase "Except When He Does" pretty exclusively applies to Pie. (And there's not really a contest there.)

Plus, I generally dislike giving titles based on LMAO RAGE. It has happened before, which that alone makes the title pretty much not unique. UberNinja got one. kuribo got one. Fate got one. LLD got one. ABR got one? That's just off the top of my head. How is raging unique? How is it title-worthy? And does it not just encourage a potentially destructive type of behavior?

also I hate this argument though because first of all, it's not a rage thing and it's not destructive. it's literally a shtick of his. there is absolutely no other user on the site that I would go yeah that would fit them too. because there isn't one. it fits him so absolutely perfectly and the people who play with him the most and have spent the most time talking with him and experiencing his play style agree.

My argument isn't necessarily that Antihero shouldn't get a title for it. My argument is that IF he does, then the "it's not unique" argument goes out the window.

yeah I think if we were gonna look for totally unique aspects of people to title, no one would have a title at all because people are just not the special and unique snowflakes we sometimes like to think we are

First off, using the word "unique" was a mistake. How about instead of unique, titles should be about a memorable trait or event related to a person. Better?

Second, if there are no objections soon, I'll be moving forward with reducing the minimum to 3 months.

Third, I don't like suggestions related to homerow for Anti. He strays.

Now, where to begin with IPie?

1. When this discussion first began all those millennia ago, I did a search and found that not enough uses of "except when he/I does/do" were about IPie. How much was enough? I honestly don't remember, and the search function is being weird now so I can't check again.

2. It still seems like an inside joke for Reckoning/Commune people. While I'm okay with meetstuff going into titles, I want enough people that aren't part of the initial group to support it too*. So far, the only outsider to support it has been TSO, and his support only came after reading IPie's post.

3. His only example of someone not initially in on the joke referencing the joke was Oman, and Oman only knew it because of previous debates about the title. That's another issue I have with this title. I feel like the title nomination has gotten bigger than the joke itself. When I think of Except When He Does, I don't think of IPie, I think of that title people keep trying to give IPie.

4. Not everyone gets a title. That's fine. Post 54 reads to me like IPie demanding he receive his title. I do not intend to reward this behavior. Titles are srs bsns.

Most of what I just said is only my perspective, but it's the only perspective I've got.



*This means that even if profanity were allowed, enough people that weren't in the Skype call would need to support fucking sweetheart before Tammy could have it.

(For what it's worth, I have always supported Pie's title, so no double-standard from me. Every reference I've seen of others that're NOT Pie using the phrase, are of/on/from users directly REFERENCING Pie. Like I think I once have said, "I don't do X...except when I do", but I was doing it to
