It's unamerican to not support GAAP. However, LIFO lets companies game the system if they use it, and I don't get why it's still around. A bank I was at recently uses LIFO to account for their loan participations, of all things, and is basically making money off an accounting standard, and it doesn't make sense.

LIFO still exists because of big oil companies use it and put heavy pressure on FASB to not remove it.

Why is it unamerican to not support GAAP? I had to learn both and I liked GAAP the most, but we use IFRS down here
