[QUESTION]What is the correct multi ball ratio?

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sat Jul 09, 2016 5:11 am

Post by Realeo »

Should a multi ball mafia have a 33/33/33 or 50/25/25?

I was actually surprised that there is actually no consensus here. In one setup that I coinedthe balance is at 33% Town 42% Mafia 25% Terrorist (SK).

8 Town, 2 Scums, 1 Terrorist.

There're complain like "Why Town is so low" or "Why SK is so high?"

So my question is:

1.
Is it 33/33/33 or 50/25/25?

2. About "Why SK is so high",
If a role is impossible--does that mean that the EV must be low?
If I get (no power) Survivor, which is notoriously hard,
is it a bug or a feature
if the Survivor's EV is low in the setup?
Should a tough role remains tough or should I worship the ratio?
"The debate on whether short multi postings or a long wall of post is good or not is like a debate on gun control--we would never understand each other and we have to make peace with it." -Realeo

I'm mabye a serious player, but I'm capable of joke. Ok?

Most people consider multiball as multiple informed minorities.

SK generally doesn't count.

Considering both scum teams must have nearly the same power: 50/50 (town and scum)

That said, you should aim for 33/33/33 generally.

Maybe something like 35/35/30 or 40/30/30 is acceptable too.

Assuming you're talking about two scum teams and not scum/SK, I personally favour 50/25/25 on the basis that in every game more than half the players are town, so town should always have a ~50% chance of winning.

Although, I see the logic for 33/33/33 too.

I thought balance was equal chance for each faction to win?

in a town/mafia/SK game, do you think a SK should have a 33% chance to win?

Close to it. Definitely not 50/25/25

40/35/25 would be fine.

There is no correct answer. As long as all factions have a
reasonable
chance at winning, I'm happy. Some personal rules of thumb:

1. A single-player third party faction should not have the same winning chances as the main scum group. It should be harder to win on your own.
2. A single-player third party faction should have at least a 1/N chance of winning (in a 10 player game, an SK should do better than 10%). Probably 1.5/N to 2/N is a reasonable range, but it depends on the setup - some setups thrive with a really strong third party, for whatever reason.
3. I tend to prefer a town EV slightly below 50% even in normal two-faction games. Mafia is more interesting when the town have to work for a win.
