Modified Execution
This is a setup based on a game type I'd play on another site. The town to scum ratio works as normal (3:1), but it's pure vanilla and instead of lynching, you vote to give a player a gun.
Instead of a nightkill, the scum has the ability to corrupt a player, making them die if they receive the gun the next day.

I've run a Kingmaker game before, and while it's a great thought-exercise, in practice players recognize (unenthusiastically...) that boring but safe method of just electing the most likely town player/confirmed town player is the way to go. (assuming their reads are not notoriously/historically bad, of course)
While subverting this strategy by giving mafia ability to trap kings may sound interesting, the biggest effect will be taking away mafia's ability to freely get rid of the players they want via nightkills. In addition, you have now limited the number of deaths to 1 per day/night cycle. Game pace will slow to snail's pace, and I think you will have trouble keeping the players interested in the game.My favorite site mod is Zor Tester.

One fix would be to give mafia their nightkills back on top of the trapping mechanism.
You would have to give town something to compensate, of course. My favorite site mod is Zor Tester.

(lol I see where you got this idea)
But if it works in chat mafia, how much difference will it make on forum mafia?ShowTranscend: His name is Jordan backwards, just call him Jordan.

Transcend: lol that actually sounds funny

In the original setup, if town leashes the King shot and just gives the gun out at random, it's almost certainly townsided. (And I can't see a compelling reason for them not to do that.) Scum can't exactly shoot the wrong person, except in lylo, as they'd give themself away as scum in the process. Come to think of it, town might be able to do even better by getting the second-scummiest player to shoot the scummiest (thus meaning that scum corruption will have basically no effect).
In terms of pacing, you typically just make the game smaller if it's likely to get boring with more players. I'd probably start it at 6:3 (note: a different ratio than the one the OP listed) if I had to guess a balanced town:scum ratio off the top of my head.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town - callforjudgement
