  • Each player starts off possessing their own heart in pregame.
  • You may give your heart away during the pregame phase.
  • As a night action, you may choose to give away any heart you currently have, but only one each night. This is not compulsive.
  • Your heart is what determines your life on nightkills only. Mafia targets a player for their nightkill. The players of which that player controls the hearts of, die.
  • If you possess your own heart at any point, your status is set to introverted, effectively removing your vote until you no longer possess your heart. This effect will disable when there are 3 or less players left alive.
  • Once during the game, you may choose to destroy a heart in your possession, effectively killing that player. It will set your status to bitter, making you unable to destroy another heart. You will receive the hated modifier, which will only disable when there are 3 or less players left alive.
  • A mafia goon may not both kill and destroy a heart in the same night phase.
  • If a player dies because their heart was killed, they must pledge any hearts in their possession to a single other player still alive.
  • The heart of a lynched player will be automatically destroyed without penalty to the holder. Any hearts the lynchee possesses must be pledged to a single other player still alive.

all it takes then is 3 hearts to be given to scum and a day 1 mislynch and scum win if they can destroy hearts. I don't know if that makes it too townsided though?

I think mafia can try to hold off destroying hearts until they're certain that doing so will ensure victory.
Not letting them destroy hearts can allow forced scenarios like "claim the heart you have and kill it". If he can't, he's mafia.

What could work is not letting the same goon both kill and take another night action. It decreases the stacked mafia kills by 1 already, if it happens.

so scum basically want to shoot for people who control the most hearts? and is there a knock on effect from heart control (If A has B's heart and C has B's heart, does C die if A is shot because B dies)

Yes on the first one.
I haven't really thought about the second one...
What about returning that heart to the owner?

Also, giving hearts should resolve before kills, so hearts' locations can be discussed.

i think that either returning the heart to the owner or a pledging system for hearts you control would be the best solution. knock on would lead to too many deaths too quickly.

Returning it to the owner means possibly a few more voteless players, allowing tactful play by mafia. Pledging, on the other hand, seems a more tactical way for town to handle things.

I'm intending to run this in the theme queue soon. I think I'm gonna go with pledging there, just as a test run.

the thing with pledging is mafia can track it to figure out where the hearts will be going. if you can only give away one heart per night this allows tactical play from both factions.

How can they figure out where hearts are going if pledging happens privately?

Giving one heart away each night is definitely interesting... It shouldn't apply to people who died and have yet to pledge the hearts they possess, right?

i was thinking you pledge all hearts you have to one person. you don' t want to risk giving them all to scum. so you try and give them to someone you think is town. scum can try and guess where pledges are to kill people before they can dissipate them. scum can also do stuff like figure out who someone probs pledged to, kill them and give a town heart in their possession to the person the NK pledged to and then shoot the person who recieved the hearts the next night.

should give town enough room to scum to be able to hide amongst town and town enough room to play around the hearts mechanic while getting killed.
