[SETUP] Hot Potato

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Aug 20, 2017 4:52 am

  • 5 Vanilla Townies
  • 2 Mafia Goons
  • Scum win at 50% (all scum dead = town win, town lose majority = scum win)
  • No normal voting or nightkills. Instead, at the start of each Day, the moderator chooses a random player and gives them the Hot Potato. Ownership of the Hot Potato is always publicly known.
  • Each player can move the Hot Potato to a different player once per game Day. The Hot Potato can be moved by a player whether they currently hold it or not.
  • When the Hot Potato is held by the same person for 48 hours continuously, they die and the game goes to the next Day.
  • Probably also some shortcut mechanic to avoid the 48-hour wait in cases where it's clear that the potato isn't going to move.
(I'm not sure where the Mini values for this are. Probably either 6:3 or 7:3.)

Logistically, you'd ask players to pass the potato with boldposts (or maybe vote or hurt tags), but also put a countdown in the same post. ("Vote counts" would still be useful, but they'd actually be a listing of players who had their potato pass left, and probably a history of who'd passed and who received throughout that Day. You'd also need a moderator in case there were replacements. Due to the nature of the game, though, you wouldn't need deadlines.)

this looks balanced i think? the only issue is with scum not really having a plausible defence to not give the hot potato to who town leaders want bc its more significant than a vote.

Right, the numbers take into account the possibility that people will try to direct scum actions. (Although, this is a game design in which players being egotistical can have a decently large effect on the vote, and that can happen from scum or town.) I can certainly see town intentionally wasting scummy players' potato moves early on in an attempt to prevent them having an influence over the vote, or the like, but given that that requires actually identifying scum, the game's still going to revolve around scumhunting.

would this not cause an issue if it goes to 2:2 where who wins is decided on by who starts with the potato?

Town = scum is meant to be a scum victory. I'll edit that into the post.
