Power of Eight

Power of Eight
(slightly modified from something I proposed on MU due to different site balancing standards)

13 player game, known to be single ball

Roll a die, get 1-8. That number (X) defines town AND scum power:

X for scum power
• 1-2
o 1 roleblocker, 1 rolecop
• 3-4
o 2 goons, 1 rolebocker
• 5-6
o 1 goon, 1 roleblocker, 1 1-shot vig
• 7-8
o 1 roleblocker, 1 1-shot vig, 1 rolecop

Then roll a die X number of times, to get letters I, M, C, P, K. If you ever get more than 4 of an individual letter, reroll the excess of that letter:

I
• 1
o Odd Night Tracker
• 2 OR 3
o Tracker
• 4
o Odd Night Tracker, Tracker

M
• 1
o IC
• 2 OR 3
o 2x Masons
• 4
o IC, 2x Masons

C
• 1
o One-Shot Cop
• 2 OR 3
o Odd Night Cop
• 4
o One-Shot Cop, Odd Night Cop

P
• 1
o Odd-Night Doctor
• 2 OR 3
o Doctor
• 4
o Doctor, Odd-Night Doctor

K
• 1
o Odd Night Vig
• 2 OR 3
o Vig
• 4
o Vig, Odd Night Vig

That gives results like...

Die = 2 (die = 1 is this but with less town power)
rb, rolecop
vs
Tracker, 10 VTs
OR Doctor, 10 VTs
OR Odd Night Vig, Odd Night Doc, 9 VTs
etc

Die = 4 (die = 3 is this but with less town power)
2 goons, rb
vs
2 masons, vig, 7 VTs
OR 2 masons, odd-night vig, 7 VTs (masons = 2 or 3 M's)
OR doc, 1-shot cop, 8 VTs
etc

Die = 6 (die = 5 is this but with less town power)
1 goon, rb, 1-shot vig
vs odd-night cop, vig, 8 VTs
OR vig, odd night vig, doc, 7 VTs
OR 2 masons, vig, 7 VTs
OR 2 masons, vig, doc, 6 VTs
etc

Die = 8 (die = 7 is this but with less town power)
rb, 1-shot vig, rolecop
vs tracker, 2 masons, vig, 6 VTs
OR IC, 2 masons, 1-shot cop, odd night cop, 5 VTs
OR doc, vig, odd-night cop, 7 VTs
OR doc, vig, odd-night cop, IC, 6 VTs

First glance says this looks mad scumsided? Tracker is insanely unlikely to actually get guilties (and tracker innos are worthless).

I would say that the only tracks that are likely to substantially increase town winrate are Vigs and ICs/Masons.

But seeing as 3:10 is way scumsided already, almost every 1-2 die result is gonna go to scum.

1-2 die is 11/2

so in worlds where town gets almost nothing, scum lose a member

and 11/2 mountainous is wolfsided on MS but not so blatantly wolfsided that towns need a whole lot more

You're correct that you get some games where you'd end up with die = 3

3 T's
Tracker and 9 VT's
vs 2 goons and a roleblocker

this would be a very unusually wolfsided outcome

whereas shit like
Tracker and 2 masons
vs 2 goons and a roleblocker

is mechanically quite a bit likelier in the "die = 3 or 4, and there's 2-3 I rolls"

And while it's certainly ture that towns need a good amount of help

10/3
tracker and 2 masons
vs 2 goons and a roleblocker
in a semi-open
seems townsided but not horrifyingly so

Possibly a tweak to setup is to say something like
"if the die is an odd number, then reroll the town PR dice any time there's a __ =3 result"

i.e.
X = 5 (original roll)
and then I = 3, M = 2
would be
2 masons and a tracker
vs goon, roleblocker, 1-shot vig
which is fairly obviously wolfsided for an MS semi-open

so you instead reroll until you get something where nothing = 3

so you could instead get
K = 2
P = 1
M = 1
I = 1
Vig, Odd-Night Doctor, IC, Odd-Night Tracker, 6 VT's
vs
goon, roleblocker, 1-shot vig

which seems generically fine for balance even though it definitely veers towards the role madness side of things?
