[Setup] Too Many Names Rolls in this 9 Person?
Full disclaimer - I intend to run this game live, for a group of friends who vary in experience, with none being totally new to Mafia, and none being experts. If this is the wrong spot for me to post this, I apologize, but it is meant as a setup that could work on Mafiascum as well.
This is inspired by the various 2d3 setups, but with two scum PRs and three town PRs.
Mafia Roleblocker
Mafia Rolecop
4x Vanilla Town
Town Doctor
Town Neapolitan
Town Tracker
I know lots of roles makes games susceptible to mass claim, but we still have four VT. No Cop, so this should dodge "follow the cop" as well, as the Neapolitan and Tracker can't really confirm that anyone is mafia.
Is this too town-sided? Too susceptible to mass claim? If so, what balance changes would you suggest?- BBmolla

Townsided as hell, honestly I’d suggest PRs massclaim as PRs and bam three confirmed town (unless a scum claims PR in which case you claim roles and get 50% chance of scum lynch day 1)
Play cop or masons instead. 9 players, 2 mafia, 5 vts and either 2 masons or a cop and a VT.
Keep in mind every night action in the game adds about 30-45 seconds of waiting for everyone.Come see me in the Great American Melodrama in Oceano- BBmolla

That does concern me. People having to wait 5 minutes while all the night actions are resolved does sound problematic, even if I could address the other concerns to make things more balanced.
Thanks for your feedback!- callforjudgement

It is definitely susceptible to massclaim. That's not something I would worry about too much FtF though, until your group figures out that massclaim is a thing. (FtF games in general can care a little less about balance, since they don't last months. Which isn't to say ignore balance completely, of course.)
The bigger problem is the complicated night resolution. In FtF games, you have to be really careful about giving away who has what role (by them moving, or by the direction of your voice), and that gets way worse with more roles. One way around this is to wake up every player every night for the same amount of time, and have them show you their role card the first night. (Maybe even have the VTs point at someone to no effect, if you're worried much about movement.) Of course, the problem with that is that it takes forever.- mith

If you aren't bothered with the scum having power roles, JK9 is a nice setup. Could give the scum a Rolecop if you're worried about FtF being too townsided (I'd avoid Roleblocker vs. Jailkeeper in a game with relatively inexperienced players.)- KarmicGuide

To be really specific, mith, we'll be playing on Roll20.
So there will be webcams, a skype call, private messages and stuff. So f2f, but no super obvious moving around. (We use roll20 for DnD, sometimes do secret things, and it's usually pretty obvious that someone is typing a whisper, but fairly hard to determine who is doing the whispering.)
JK9 looks really close to what I want, although I still like the idea of scum PRs.- KarmicGuide

We're playing right now, and they are mass claiming day 2. (After asking, "is that a thing you can do?")Copyright © MafiaScum. All rights reserved.
