If Mafia is lynched Day 1, town wins. Otherwise, scum kill 4 Town and 1 Mafia to get down to 3p Lylo.

Town EV is 13/27, which is quite balanced.

I designed this setup with the idea of a short but decently sized game in mind. Will this be fun to play?

(for reference, 13/27 is around .48)

i think it's interesting. it seems like EV will be lower in practice due to scum's huge ability to control who lives and who doesn't (i.e. crafting the lylo that gives them the best odds), but on the other hand one bad / obvious scum player can lose scum the game themselves.

i'd play it.

I'm meh on the express mechanic here. If you want a 2 day max, you could make the scum Lovers and just change the win condition for scum to "survive 2 days". EV is 4/9, and you don't have to worry about the weirdness of going to 1:2 with little information.

Wait why not just make it 8p to get an EV of 50% exactly?

Town does need a boost in any vanilla setup tbh

And the 5 nightkills at once is kind of the joke for this setup haha

I wonder if it would be less scumsided if town could somehow participate in their own deaths during night? Town players could decide to sacrifice themselves - if more than four sacrifice, randomize deaths, if less than four sacrifice, mafia picks the remaining kills. Hmmm actually I can't tell if this would help, like yeah iffy town could sacrifice, but town doesn't know which kills mafia made

If you see the 2:1 lylo as the point of the setup, this is a good way to do it.

Now I'm wondering if there's a good way to make a game that
always
hits 2:1 lylo. Something like "if town is lynched day 1, scum choose a 2:1 lylo from the remaining players; if scum is lynched day 1, a random townie is shown a list of all town and all scum and makes a 2:1 lylo out of the remaining players". Unfortunately, that doesn't work directly because town can come up with a lylo-choosing strategy in advance such that for every possible town-chosen lylo, the choice by itself identifies who scum is.

The main problem is encouraging them to stay active. Apart from that, it mostly serves to tone down the power of the scum kill (which is something that many setups would really benefit from; it'd work fairly well in this one although it might defeat the point of going to 2:1 lylo).
