[SETUP] Double Down

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Jul 10, 2018 12:28 am

5 Mafia Goon
8 Vanilla Townie

There is no night phase, but town must instead vote to lynch a pair every Day.

Town win if 2 Mafia are lynched on the same Day. Mafia win by outnumbering town, or if town cannot meet their wincon anymore.

EV is 41.4%. 4:9 is 31.9%, and 6:7 is 37.2%.

This setup was made to highly promote preflip associative reads.

Thoughts?

There's something of a debate about whether very high scum/town ratios make lynching scum hard because almost all the townies have to coordinate. I guess this setup would be a good test of that. (Personally, I think it's unlikely to be a problem.)

I like the way that a "semi-mislynch" doesn't actually lose town their only mislynch, but also doesn't really get them closer to winning. It means that the setup's less swingy than it initially looks.

I expect this to be townsided simply on the basis of EV; if scum have no control over who dies (as happens here), the town tends to do much better than EV in practice. That said, 8:5 does look like the most fun ratio (at least for town), even if 7:6 or 9:4 is probably more balanced. So perhaps running this at 8:5 to see what happens is correct.

EV percentages need a reference point (are they for town or scum?)

EV is always for town unless otherwise stated (the EV for scum is 100% minus the EV for town in a singleball setup).

I am a fan of setups with weird EV curves.
