[SETUP] Partygoers

Hi all. I've worked on this set-up for a little bit and I'd be interested in seeing what other people's thoughts are. It's semi-open with two possible setups. The game starts on day one. Day-talk exists in all private topics.

Setup 1 (66.6% chance)Town Compulsive Neighborizer
Town Traffic Analyst
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Mafia Rolecop
Mafia Goon

OR

SETUP 2 (33.3% chance)Town Traffic Analyst
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Vanilla Townie
Mafia Compulsive Neighborizer
Mafia Goon

I really like the possibilities provided by this set-up. Town neighborizers can be great assets to the town in terms of scumhunting, while mafia neighborizers can use deception in their private topics to manipulate their neighbors. The possibility of the scum neighborizer won't let the neighborizer function as a cleared role. The traffic analyst will have a hard time finding definitive guilties, but they may be able to get some clears. If there's only one scum left, the traffic analyst won't be be able to obtain any more guilties (this is especially helpful for scum if they get lynched on day one). The rolecop exists in the first set-up to counter the two power roles. I don't think it's breakable through mass-claim. I think this set-up will rely heavily on player skill with a little bit of investigative night-play thrown in. This seems like a set-up that I would like to play as either alignment.

I would imagine this setup is scumsided. While Cop vs. 2 Goons in a 9p setup may be closed to balanced, traffic analyst is going to be weaker. At the very least, scum don't need a role cop in setup one.

Hmm. Could replacing one VT with a town bodyguard in both setups bring it closer to balanced?

I think second setup needs something to balance it.

Maybe an additional traffic analyst who is secretly naive? Town is guarinteed two named roles and scum has a for sure fake claim.

Yeah change a VT in setup two to a secretly naive traffic analyst

Every game two analysts and a neighborizor will claim and town always must determine which claim is false.

I think a good way to balance the setup is to just use setup 1 all the time. Neighbourizer can be confirmed town as rolecop can dead with that

I think optimal strategy at that point would be just claim Neighbourizer. Forces mafia to kill you, preventing compromised targets for traffic light man, or have a confirmed town who can out the compromised targets.

I think my solution discourages that.

Agreed with bbmolla, I also didn't want the neighbourizer to turn into a friendly neighbor just by the nature of open games hence the second setup.

I think I like bb's suggestion regarding a naive traffic investigator. Quick question, should their sanity flip upon death?

Okay this line grosses me out because it reminds me of EM's principle of breaking games and posting the breaking strategy in the setup info

This setup seems really fun, it has a lot of versatility in strategies. The only problem is of course, the second side being scumsided, and including any roles to balance it out would confirm a mafia neighbouriser. The naïve cop suggestion isn't good imo because the two traffic analysts claiming D1 confirms the neighbouriser as mafia, which is bad considering the neighbouriser is compulsive. I honestly can't think of anything to fix the problem besides using more possible setups.

I'd just say use a Cop in both setups tbh. It takes away part of the mechanic but ultimately makes for the most balance.

I think both original setups are scumsided, in which case you could probably add the same town power role to both to help balance it.

What about something like this: start from a base of {Town Traffic Analyser, 6 VT, 2 Goon}, then add a Compulsive Neighbouriser and Motion Detector to the setup (⅓ chance of Neighbouriser scum, ⅓ chance of Motion Detector scum, ⅓ chance of neither scum), then if scum got neither power role give them a Roleblocker, all scum roles Multitasking. I haven't tried to finely balance this yet, but it seems to close off most attempts to break the setup by power role analysis whilst keeping the total power at the right level.
