The Subject

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Fri Nov 16, 2018 10:49 am

9 Villagers
3 Sleepers
1 Subject

- Villagers win if both the Subject and the Sleepers are eliminated.
- The Subject knows the Sleepers' identities. It has a night kill which can only be used on Villagers.
- When the Subject is eliminated, it must choose a living Sleeper to become the new Subject. At the start of the next day, the new Subject gains the same information and abilities as the first one. This includes the post-mortem ability described in this bullet point.
- The Subject and, if applicable, the previous Subject (but not the Subjects before that) win if non-villagers make up at least half of the living players.
- Sleepers have no knowledge of other Sleepers' identities. A Sleeper can only win by first becoming the Subject and then fulfilling the Subject win condition.

Sleeper Strategy

Your primary goal is to eliminate the Subject to get a chance at winning. Your secondary goal is to eliminate other Sleepers. You are much more likely to be chosen as the new Subject if the other Sleepers are dead or under heavy suspicion.

Subject Strategy

If you are eliminated, your only way to win is to choose a new Subject who is never eliminated. Make sure there are no associative tells pointing their way.

Inherently unbalanced, but it should make for a solid short-deadline game.

Ditching the night kill might be a good idea.

Are the Sleepers like a mafia faction with private communication, NKs etc.? And the Subject is like a survivor who can pass itself on once (or more like a serial killer)?

I like the idea I think, I'm just (a little slow and) trying to kind of parse how each alignment goes about playing this. What would win conditions be + how do you see a game of The Subject playing out?

Sleepers don't know each other and have no night kill. I should put this in the OP.

A Sleeper can only win by first becoming a Subject and then fulfilling the Subject win condition.

As for game play, everyone tries to lynch the Subject. Everyone but the Subject wants to lynch (other) Sleepers. Only the Subject really wants to lynch Villagers.

So a game with 3 usurpers vs a godfather, with some secret hitler mechanics thrown in
Sounds spicy

I don't think this game has useful associative tells (the Subject is best off ignoring what they know about the Sleepers). In turn, that means that the Sleepers are pretty much Survivors, which is often regarded as an unfun role to play. (I agree that Sleepers badly want to eliminate each other, but they have no information to go on with which to do that.)
