MECHANIC: Phalanx

Each night round(Players/4+1) can join together to form a phalanx. If all players in the phalanx are town, they are immune to killing actions for that night. No more than round(Players/4+1) may be in a phalanx, and all members of the phalanx must declare at night, privately, to the mod, their participation in the phalanx along with their allies as being a part of the phalanx for it to be a legitimate action. Specifying an incorrect number of inputs discounts the participation of that player entirely.

example:
There are 8 players alive.
Players A, B, C, D, E, F are all town. Players G, H are scum.
Players A, B, and C want to form a phalanx together
Player A PMs the mod that night "myself, B, and C form a phalanx"
Player B PMs the mod that night "myself, A, and C form a phalanx"
Player C PMs the mod that night "myself, B and A form a phalanx"
A phalanx between A, B, C forms. They are immune to night kills for that night only.
Players D, G, H want to form a phalanx together
Player D PMs the mod that night "myself, G and H form a phalanx"
Player G PMs the mod that night "myself, D and H form a phalanx"
Player H PMs the mod that night "myself, D and G form for a phalanx"
This phalanx fails to form due to not being all-town.
Players E and F want to form a phalanx with player D.
Player E PMs the mod that night "myself, D and F form a phalanx"
Player F PMs the mod that night "myself, D and E form a phalanx"
This phalanx fails to form due to improper inputs.

No lynch results in a mafia victory. Kills are compulsive. The Mafia wins when they equal the town.

phalanx req with a mislynch/kill each day/night
N1 - 6:2 3 townies required
N2 - 4:2 2 townies required

It's important to note that scum can kill into a phalanx and pretend the players that failed to play musical chairs well enough are scum.

Is this broken? If not, can the formula be tweaked to make it scaleable to larger games?

can multiple phalanxes be formed in one night? e.g. 8 people alive, townies 1-3 form one and townies 4-6 form another.

This seems really townsided in some lobbies
2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.

Yeah, that's my original intent. I guess {players/2} would remove this, but I considered it to be a feature.

was just wondering, not pointing to it as a bad thing or anything (in fact, in the unlikely scenario that it does manage to happen it seems to me that town should be rewarded for it)

Jingle just inned a setup just like that into the Micro Queue if you're interested.

Here's why I don't think it's suitable for this game.

Having an instant win condition takes away scumplay, a potential lynch, and a vector of messing with the town. It doesn't seem fair because scum can and should be able to choose not to kill people only in failed phalanxes.

The main point of the setup is to let town influence who can't be killed (problem in mountainous games) but only if they can identify who is town (herculean task). Even then, scum can spoil it. Take away that chance to play spoiler, and it could end up like RC's take on it. 1 phalanx of players that trust each other = gg scum. The no lynch rule is in the game because even if scum fail-kill, LYLO isn't delayed at all.

(Another problem in mountainous is that people don't have a reason to start fights. You need a point of conflict to start up the read forming machine.)
