EV is exactly 50%, so it's all play based.
I'd agree that killing is preferable to treestumping, though, as if the player being killed is convincing/dangerous they should already have a good chance to win the 1v1, meaning a scum lynch. Seems like a hard game from scum's PoV already. This is a Parachute.- Jingle

Haha obviously no nightkill
Yeah I was thinking maybe whenever a lynch occurs the next duel is just announced. I like the idea of a short pre-D1 phase, too.
Scum basically control the first couple lynches by sheer numbers, but to exercise that power some of them have to semi-out themselves.
Do you guys like it? I would personally play it but idk if it’s fun to others- Jingle

EV is 50% for any setup of this nature with an odd number of scum, and more town than scum. I agree with the other posters that duel winners should leave the thread.
It's obviously related to perpetual mylo, but the duel nature of the setup has a fairly major effect on the balance (increasing the EV but, possibly, hurting town's chances relative to EV). Keeping the number of townies and the number of scum similar feels right to me, though, even though the duelling means that extra townies don't actually mechanically help or hurt town's victory chances (they help in a normal setup, and hurt in perpetual *ylo). Maybe town should have two more members than scum to help dilute the scum's votes in the duels.
One possible improvement to avoid the D1 issues is to start the duels on D2 rather than D1. (That marginally hurts town EV, making it less than 50%, but that's probably desirable?)scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town- BuJaber

Duels start on D2 makes it more interesting I think.
I agree that the winner of the duel should leave the thread completely.
I particularly like the 3 lynches win condition instead of until everyone is dead.- Jingle

In that case I don't really see it as making the game more interesting, or as solving a problem.
The premise, I suppose is that scum choosing two players in the dark is boring, but I actually think that's the most interesting phase of the game. You have the WIFOM of choosing a weak player and a strong player or two players of commiserate skill, and whether the stronger player is scum. And you have to do so without knowing beforehand how town is going to react.
If you don't think a scumteam can pick who they want to 1v1 based on a playerlist, you should probably play more mafia. The only time I see this being a problem is if everyone in the game doesn't know anyone else. And that's not really an issue. This is a Parachute.- callforjudgement
