[SETUP] Gambling Mountainous

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed Apr 10, 2019 9:22 am

It's basically mountainous, but with the addition of a gambling mechanism:
  • Town (and mafia) can publicly gamble on someone being town, including themselves;
  • They can gamble as many players simultaneously as they want;
  • Once the majority of the players have gambled on someone:
    • If the gambled player is town, they will be modconfirmed town (won't be given anything else though);
      • The day will also continue normally;
    • If the gambled player is mafia, game will immediatelly end in a mafia win;
  • Obviously, if more than 50% of the players alive are modconfirmed town, town immediatelly wins.
In theory, the EV isn't changed. However, in practice, it can eliminate lategame paranoia and makes the game rely more on early dayplay while removing the stagnancy.

I've had the same idea before

Basically "Let's assume Player is town and never lynch them. If they were scum, scum win".

And I think it can be applied to any game without mechanically changing the outcome.

Probably helps town by reducing paranoia lynches, but I like it.

The interesting part about this to me is how it forces town and scum to respect dead townies’ reads
A D1 townblock that mutually confirms, say, 3 players will affect how everyone reads whichever of them is still alive D3. Typically, if scum does a good job killing in the townblock, they can start turning popular opinion against whoever in the townblock is still alive, with no one to defend them. That option is gone here.
I like it

Of course the obvious offset is any player with a strong enough scumgame can win the game for scum D1 (would love to see this happen)

I’ll definitely /in if I have time when it comes around

Yeh, the game can end really early if one scum plays well enough, but that still seems better than have the game drag for long with frequent stagnance.

Also I think scum will have to work a little harder to be townread rather than just the enough to not be lynched.
