[SETUP] Standardized Testing

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:13 am

Post by Karnage »

With the AP tests being taken online this year and the College Board swearing they have super secret anti-cheating technology I though it would be fun to build a micro game around that. Town test takers have to pass notes to their classmates without being caught by the proctors.

Standardized Testing2
Mafia Proctors (Goons)

7
6
Town Test Takers (Compulsive Visitors
Fruit Vendors
)

Mafia does not have a factional kill but instead have a factional "Fatal Watcher" ability. Any results received by a Fatal Watcher are killed.
Mafia may
not
self target
(and not kill themselves)
.

I think this gets broken by everyone targeting the person below them on the playerlist and making a circle like that?

The Fatal Watch kills whoever they see visiting their target, right?
I will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. You can come back and be like, “I dreamt that Locke is a N2 Bulletproof Multitasking Cop and Self-Targeting Doctor,” and I will go, “Okay, Locke kill it is then.”

right, because if you don't get fruit you know the player above was scum. COuld I just eliminate the fruit part and just make them visit other players?

if scum watches karnage, and datisi visits karnage, datisi dies

with Fruit Vendors, assuming daystart and a d1 mislynch, game goes to 5v2 in the Night, and the next Day it's 4v2 either with an outed scum or some form of 1v1's based on claims and counterclaims that i haven't exactly worked out yet...

Compulsive visitors solve that problem I guess, and if they try the "target in a circle" startegy then it's basically mountainous 6v2 which is scumsided, so Town would have to figure out a different strategy. I'm trying to figure out what that would be, but I'm not sure I see it.

Assuming d1 mislynch and target choices be agreed on collectively and publically, then next Day would either be MyLo, LyLo, or achieved parity.

huh wait, it just occured to me that a mislynch in MyLo is not necesarily game over for Town. Can Town No-Lynch? is the Mafia Fatal Watcher compulsory?

I would say no. Its equivalent to a factional kill so they could choose not to watch anybody.

This is more like a 7:2 or even an 8:2 I think. 6:2 nightless is 50% EV, I think enough people are going to get NKed to chip away enough EV that you need at least 1 more townie here.

My misreading of the setup where the mafia can't target their own with fatal watcher seems more fun than the setup as written. I'm not sure what strategies there are that are better than rolling a d7 to target with this much symmetry. I guess you could coordinate having two townread players make sure they target different players to hedge risks, but that's not enough for the setup to excite me.
"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"

Ok. if scum can't self target, that encourages town to find scum since they know they can visit scum safely. That makes sense.

That's not a game of Mafia then (no connections)

Yeah, that makes it pretty fun. And then there's a meta of scum trying to guess what each townie would pick believing that to kill them, in cases where the townie is wrong.

Screen Mafia1 Mafia Godfather
1 Mafia Goon
4 Compulsive Indecisive Disloyal 33% vigs

Night zero and each night, the mafia arranges players into row one, two, and three, two seats each.
Each day, players vote on a row to receive cardboard screens. Players on that row can't be targeted that night.
The mafia targets a townie each night. All players who visit that player are killed.
If three townies visit the Mafiosi in one night, that player dies. If it's the godfather, that wins the game.
The first time a player dies, if it was a single player, the game switches to mountainous mafia (with a win-condition godfather). If it was two players, the mafia may swap the Goon and Godfather roles and then the Goon escapes the game. If it was three players the mafia wins immediately.

That's my best attempt at compressing it.
