[SETUP] Decision By Maths

The setup's name refers to how the setup is decided, which is by using a very simple math algorithm.

Why would someone submit random numbers when they can mathematically guarantee themselves a certain role? I also don't really understand your algorithm; it doesn't appear to correspond with your example.

I mean that random numbers are optimal. If everybody does what I did in the example, then it would be too
Mafia
sided. To be fair, should I add the rule that all finalised modifiers and roles have to be slightly different from one another? (Like every player has to send the four numbers again, if it conflicts with another player in the same alignment. Though, this could give away their alignment.)

Or maybe, get players to use 8 1d500 dice tags, add up the first and third to use as the first number, add up the second and fourth to use as the second, and so on?

I concur with Ircher that there appear to be different steps to the example than the described algorithm (esp. with regard to
when
one takes the digital root)

Tackling the larger concept, it seems simpler to just make the player pick directly (A-J for modifiers, 0-9 for the role) over hunting for the right combination. It makes even more sense to leave it to the moderator to rand the 4 numbers, depending on how committed you are to the idea of determining with a more advanced series of operations.

Letting town players pick will almost certainly break the setup (ex. 7 cops vs. 2 neapolitans)

Games will be prone to swing if random, but even the expected looks a bit townsided? I'm going to assume every "final" integer is equally likely, which means you can expect 3.5 town power roles vs. 1 scum PR.

Taking Prism's suggestion into consideration, this is the superseded version of the setup.
General Setup Information
Decision By Maths

7 Town

2 Mafia

Pregame Information
  • The moderator generates 4 random positive integers for each player.
  • The moderator adds the first integer and third integer together and multiplies it by the result when the second integer is subtracted from the fourth integer. Next the moderator finds the digital root of the absolute value of the result and uses it to assign the modifier for the player.
  • The moderator adds the second number and fourth number together and multiplies it by the result when the first number is subtracted from the third number. Next the moderator finds the digital root of the absolute value of the result and uses it to assign the role for the player.
  • In the scenario in that the setup is unbalanced, the moderator may choose to generate the integers again.
  • The moderator may choose which version of the distribution table to use for their game.
    • However, if the setup is run in the Normal Queue, the Normal version must be chosen.
    • See here for the distribution tables.
  • Once this is done, each player is given their alignment as well as their finalised modifier and role.

Example Pregame Scenario
  • The moderator gets 439, 833, 837, and 394, for a player.
  • 4+3+9=16
    • 1+6=7
  • 8+3+3=14
    • 1+4=5
  • 8+3+7=18
    • 1+8=9
  • 3+9+4=16
    • 1+6=7
  • (9+7)(7-5)=(16)(2)=32
    • 3+2=5
  • (7+5)(9-7)=(12)(2)=24
    • 2+4=6
  • If the Normal version of the distribution table is used, the finalised modifier and role for that player would be either
    Town Loyal Rolestopper
    or
    Mafia Loyal Roleblocker
    , depending on their alignment.
  • If the General version of the distribution table is used, the finalised modifier and role for that player would be either
    Town Loyal Enchantress
    or
    Mafia Loyal Enchantress
    , depending on their alignment.
