Going to be getting progressively less and less active onsite due to work schedule, but still very accessible over Discord (find me in the MS Discord!).

Just an update with Rocksvivor, ive had some family circumstances that really put a spanner in the works of my planning. I had hoped to run this early-mid April, but I cant see it happening for a while :/

Is it hard for a total noob to play this game?

it isn't hard to play survivor per definition, but it can defintely be hard to actually win at survivor, granted, as a newbie, i'd say it's mostly dependant on how social you are by default, as you'd need actual experience for deeper strategies

If you're willing and able to talk with a group of people for an extended period of time, and you're willing to learn a little bit about the setup/strategy of the game before it starts, then you should be alright. It's tough to play well in a first game, but that first game will also usually be an indicator of whether the game is for you or not. And it's not unheard of for first-time players to win, either.

Spectating is also an option if you want to see what a game is like without committing to playing one.

Theoretically no. The biggest challenge newer players tend to face is not being active enough both in terms of their presence messaging other players and in their passiveness while playing. It can feel like getting dropped in the deep end. And a lot of players need a game or two to really understand.

For my last game I wrote a little "quick and dirty" guide for newer players. That was a non-anonymous one and this one is anonymous (so don't tell anyone but the mods if you do decide to apply), but many of the same guidelines could be helpful for a newer player: viewtopic.php?p=12055903#p12055903

Winning is very difficult just from a pure numbers standpoint: only about 5% of the players who enter this game will win. But although winning should probably be a goal for every player, it's not the only one that should lead you to believe a game is successful or not.

For the last game I did, I included a question of "What are your top 3 goals this game?" and there were a lot of players who didn't even pick that as a top 3 goal. Lots of other goals apply: entertain the spectators, learn the game, make friends, make it to the jury, getting to the final tribal council, and winning challenges are all valid goals (plus many others!).

It should probably also be said that Survivor tends to involve some amount of lying and backstabbing - you may go at an incredibly unexpected time because you thought everyone loved you. It's more than okay to take these things hard at the time (people put in a lot of time!), but there's a very high innate level of trust in between players.

Just because someone lied to you, or was otherwise potentially mean to you, that doesn't mean anything about what they think about you - that's just a gameplay style.
